Out of contract, the iPhone 7 Plus hit like $300-$400 several times already and likewise the 8 Plus will as well if you have the patience. Google Pixel is not that great and I wouldn't spend more than $200 out of contact for that anymore. And I wouldn't fuck with the Google Pixel 2 because LG is making it. I buy from all ranges and all companies, and there are definitely differences. The issue is that things have plateued, so to the normal person, it all looks and functions the same. I do not think that many people are upgrading their phones as often as people might think. Lots of people have been keeping their phones till the battery dies. There's just so many people that there will always be enough early adopters and people up for a new phone every year to make it look like everybody is mindlessly upgrading. Most of my friends are still on the iPhone 6 or Note 5/S5 and are still content, save for those with batteries that have gone bad.
