I'm trying to think of the first FPS that I played that had 360 degree control scheme, I think it must have been Quake 3 Arena. I play with the mouse inverted as well... but first proper FPS console would have been Halo, and that's probably where I noticed that I played inverted for the first time as none of my mates did. ArchiePeck posted... pres_madagascar posted... Inverted flight controls in open world games are madness. Down is up? What's next, teens eating laundry detergent?!?! I guess with 3D games a lot of people correlate viewpoint with a physical camera. If you are holding a camera and want to look at/film something above you, you tilt the back of the camera downwards in order to aim the lens upwards and vice versa. That's a good post. During the tutorial at the start of the game, as you're waking up they tell you that they need to calibrate your armor suit and to look at the lights on the left and right. Then they tell you to look at the light on the top. Regardless of how you move the stick it always looks up (and then changes the settings accordingly). It's so intuitive that most people literally never even think about it. They just do what feels natural, either pulling back or pushing up on the stick, and the game automatically allocates that to be "up" for them. It's brilliant. Good memory! It was a great little touch. One of the few games that didn't berate me for playing inverted. I felt like a normal human being for once. But nowadays they put it right next to the "Invert X axis" setting... who in the fuck inverts their X axis? --- Don't fear the eyes of the Dark Lord.
