Graces has my favorite battle system in the series, but it really only gets to that level when you get a lot of CC to throw around, and that takes over half the game.

As disgusting as it is, buying all the CC DLC does wonders for that game.

Berseria's battle system is A+++++. Even playing on Chaos the game never felt unfair and I had a fucking blast. Tales is interesting in how you can generally go as deep as you want - some folks play on easy/normal and have a ton of fun but if you want to go deeper you can usually go REALLY deep on the higher difficulties.

Except Zestiria, where the critical flaws in the game's design are lampshaded super hard on higher difficulties, whoops.

Xillia also had the issue of being a very easy game with barely any difficulty options, and no rewards for raising it.

Graces was EASILY the best at difficulty options and rewards, they put an absurd amount of variation in that game. Might still be better than Bersieria's to me. Shame the story and characters are....hm...

The problem was that the final dungeon locked all of the ultimate MAs behind having to explore all of it.

In a lot of RPGs if you weren't getting the EXP/Items/Etc you would just avoid them. Berseria's I would play even in a vacuum.

I think you (and others) in my psuedo-playthrough topic told me to use a guide as soon as I set foot into that place. It was advice I ended up appreciating from the bottom of my heart.

It's a shame, because it's by far the most visually interesting place in the game. Good music too.

We were just looking out for you, man.

Better the final dungeon be trash than the entirety of the last third of the game EXCEPT the final dungeon *coughzesteriacough*

Star Ocean 5 is a HILARIOUS game. It takes skill to make a game that bad. It's very rare that a game has zero redeeming values whatsoever. At least FFXV had fishing.

This is mostly why I want to play it again. The last few.months of my life have been JRPGs with fucking trash battle systems that I hate (Star Ocean 6, FFXV) so I'm a little desperate.

So they're basically Mass Effect 1? I've only played Symphonia and Abyss myself, so I'm not sure how the series evolved from there.

Vesperia was killer but it was a big slump after that. Some games had specific good things about them, but the full packages weren't all there. Berseria isn't perfect but it's a big return to form, worst case scenario it might be the 3rd best in the series, maybe #1 depending on how I feel that day.

Level design probably keeps it at #3 more often than not, though.

I mean....kinda, yeah. Berseria was a lower budget game than the last one by a good margin. New director, prequel to a poorly recieved game, not a lot of faith.

Honestly amazing that it's the best Tales game since Vesperia by a large margin.

Also MvCI is the most most damaging PR for Marvel games in a while. Deadpool and Xmen Destiny sucked much more, but those games left the conversation after a month tops, Deadpool not even a week. Half a year later and MvCI is still drawing ridicule.
