By the way if you're thinking my favorites look weirdly skewed towards recent stuff, you're right. Basically whenever I run into something I love I add it to my favorites, even if it's not as good as my real favorites. The reason I started doing this is that I noticed I hadn't changed anything in my favorites in a couple years, and I didn't want to get stuck on the idea of old series being better than new ones because of their placements on a list.

To me Akeno feels like the type of character who should be good but she's executed so poorly that she sucks anyway. Rias was the most interesting of the lot I thought. Pretty neat change from the typical heroine.

Okay, finished Yamada and the Seven Witches. augh. Why? Just, why? I posted a couple days ago about how shitty the series had gotten, but what do you know? After the arc I was reading finished, it actually got good again! For a while I was thinking that the reason the series had gotten bad was that it was focusing more on the shitty male characters than the girls, but the arc following that was all about boy witches, and it was great! All the stuff with helping the boy witches was a lot of fun, and having them be boys made it feel fresh. It was like the series going back to what made the first arc great. Unfortunately, it got terrible again after that. Instead of focusing on villains or witches or drama it focused on...nothing at all? We got like 25 chapters of the struggles of graduating high school and getting into college. WTF? Why? None of this was at all interesting, and it's been done more compellingly in thousands of other manga. This would've been much more compellingly and consistently resolved if Urara had just gotten a recommendation and then swapped bodies with Yamada for the entrance exams so that he didn't have to study. Blah. A few of the major issues with the series:

Miyamura sucked. He was alright early on, but for some reason he got quite a bit more focus after the first arc. There's really nothing interesting about this guy. He's not funny, and he doesn't have any compelling drama since he's basically perfect. The only fun part about him is his obsession with his sister, which didn't get very much focus.

The student council sucked. Naturally, this is a major problem for the second arc. Honestly, all the villains in this series were terrible. The series generally got bad whenever it decided to have a major villain.

Too much reliance on memory loss gimmicks. Honestly, this was kinda stupid even the first time it happened, though it was at least used for some interesting storytelling there. But the second time...and third time...and fourth time...and fifth time, etc. are just awful. Why? Out of all the interesting things you can do with witch superpowers, you focus on memory loss? Fuck you.

Not enough Shiraishi. She's basically the most fun part of the first arc, and there's lots of potential for interesting stuff to do with her after that, but I guess the author just didn't know what to do with her after she got together with Yamada? Her parts were generally highlights later on as well, but there could've been a lot more.

Not enough witch antics. Witch antics were one of the best parts of the first arc, and they're still the best parts of the later arcs. They're greatly reduced though, unfortunately. Especially body swap antics, which were the best.

Weird harem stuff after the first arc. I understand why the author would do this with new girls, but having Nene, Nancy, and several other girls keep pining over Yamada throughout the series, and then having them get together with other guys at the end anyway? WTF? Just have them get together with the other guys earlier if you're going to do that. Would've made for more interesting content than what we got.

The first arc was pretty fun, though it still had its issues (mainly the dumbness of the student council). Really would've been better if it'd ended after that. Even some later arcs had great parts, but they weren't enough. Sad manga.

Also why did Nene never become student council president she was the obvious choice every fucking time and making her president would've been way more interesting than all their other choices fuck you author fuck you

I think this also makes XB2 the most successful Xenoblade game so far, since neither X nor XBC hit a million sales? It has a big advantage coming out early in a console's lifespan in terms of potential future sales too, so it could eventually surpass Xenosaga 1 and become the best-selling Xeno-game ever.

Disgaea. Got up to the last boss, but he could one-shot all my party members. I checked out some strategies, but the ones I saw required being at a high enough level not to be one-shotted, so I gave up there since I didn't feel like grinding.

MMX3's final boss is a major challenge. I remember having a sleepover with some friends and we all took turns trying to beat him for a few hours when I was a kid before finally succeeding. I think I had an easier time of it when I played the game again on the MMX Collection though.
