Honestly... listening to this song during this write-up makes me think I had listened to it at a wrong time. I clearly was not in the mood for a rock song and got it. This was my write-up previously: "It just stretches on way too long and is only the instrument side of a rock band song... there's no real change in its way of doing the melody. Like sure, it has two different sections, but you're listening to... a guitar, a bass, and drums... it's nothing special." At the current time, I actually like one of the melodies and the other is okay. Sadly, not changing my rankings... even though this could have risen (sorry). Song link has the character in it, so I think I don't have to care about getting one for this character.

Back to characters I don't know, and even worse considering the game seems to have multiple people being him, hence not getting a picture this time. The song has this rating for two reasons... of many classical songs... I never did like most of Beethoven's things. The songs are easily learned because of muscle memory since like... 80% of the right hand is literally the same thing, and the left hand is just varying dynamics. It has cool moments... but it's a boring song when looked at musically. Next... we literally have a game using a classical song as a character theme. It's... even more boring to me.

The song fires off rapid fire, and then ends. It's not really enjoyable to me, doesn't make the fight any special... it's just... there and gone. Don't like it for that reason. Dedede himself is a boring villain. Granted, no Kirby character is actually any good anyway. They're all supposed to be "fun" and when your supposed villain is "fun"... it makes him below average.

Not much to it, just... it hypes up a little but it's probably heavily drowned out by the sounds of battle and seems like there's no bgm, which is a waste. That was the first write-up I copy-pasted, of course, this sentence and everything onward is new. Phantom himself... is a spider... and a scorpion... it's kind of weird. He has voice lines which makes him more of a character than nothing... but... it's not any special lines. It's basically just "you will lose." standards. But yeah... I hate spiders.

Ok who here watched Sakurada Reset? I tried to look at the MAL reviews and left having less of a clue than I did going in? Is this show a philosophical masterpiece, or is it one of most boring and lifeless shows ever created? The reviews seem to indicate there is no middle ground, but maybe that's a possibility also?

So what did people here think?

As someone that did watch it... it was a nifty concept that kind of ran itself dry. The author uses this grab bag of limited superpowers to build a story. Starting with a protag who can remember everything in his life, and a girl who can save state and load it. There are limits to hers, but the point is he can remember everything prior to a reset. I didn't really enjoy the ending, but if you're interested... it's kind of cool if what I talked about interests you, if you'd rather not watch a literal brick wall be a main heroine... then probably not. I loved the second OP though.

#91. Beloved Tomboyish Girl
Game: Touhou 6: the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

The only EoSD character to show up here, and yet my least favorite for both. Starting on song, it fittingly tries to be ice, but doesn't have the exact charm of an ice song, so I don't appreciate it overall. Just the bridges are not interesting to me, and the melody is not the best. Cirno herself... is just a brat. She's a super strong fairy, strong enough to actually be capable of fighting some youkai, and ends up liking showing off... but she's an idiot. She decides to be mischievous because of her powers, but is fairly easily defeated by either A) Playing around in a fight instead of taking it seriously because she's playing a game with her powers, or B) Someone literally asks her a riddle and she can't solve it. I'm not talking like some Sphynx riddle, no, I mean like the dude throwing his clock out a window. Ya know, the riddles we tried to solve when we were in Elementary school? She can win if someone fights her while she's being serious and they don't manipulate her stupidity, as she has fought and beat most of the human characters and even some youkai... but... 9999999999999999999999999999999999

I don't like her.

We begin the 5 ratings with Marvel losing to Capcom (I have two MvC songs, one from each side, it's hilarious). MODOK's theme is... just there, to be honest. It gets weird at different points and I forget the name of that specific squeezing electronic sound is, but I never do like it. That noise overall makes it drop to 5, and give us this ranking. The character rating, isn't entirely that I know the character fully, but I dislike what I do know about him. He's a ridiculously ugly, and boring character. He's the only villain after playing MAA that I sat there never understanding whether he even had goals... or what the hell he was even supposed to be. Not that I care, it's a giant head in a floating chair, it's a really terrible design.

#93. The Devil Went Down to Georgia
Game: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Similarly to the song before, this rating of 4 isn't because I just don't like it... it's because there are parts I do, but the parts I don't just ruin the song. In the case of this song... it's Guitar Hero. They make the final boss fight be a duel, and create a rock version of a pretty good song. And it actually does well in rock... except for one thing... Guitar solos. The guitar solos are basically "who has the biggest dick" contests because the music no longer has anything to fucking do with the original song. It's utter garbage. The best example is at ~5 minutes. It's almost tempting to believe that I have this rated too highly because I don't... sit in awe over someone's talent with an instrument. The character rating makes this song win out over the other ratings of 4, because he's the first character on this list I actually know. Only thing is... he's the most generic version of the devil you can get, pretty much. His story is half told in a song that already exists, except the fiddle is replaced with a guitar, and then... half doesn't exist. Because he's literally a character created to be a final boss in a game with minimal story. It's fun, but doesn't make him a good character.

Secondly, there's a lot of characters I either don't know, or had to scrap what little I know about them to award them a placement. Any character that I deemed having *no* knowledge about, got rated 5.5. This means they're lower than a character I deem average (6/10), but higher than one I dislike. Obviously it rewards those that nominate characters I know more than those that don't... And that works for me, f***ing get into my tastes, my nostalgia tends to get wrapped up into these rankings.

#94. Apollo Justice ~ I'm Fine

While we're still sitting on a song rating of 4... this one is quite different than others. I really liked this song at the start. It's a beautiful piece that I think presents Apollo well. Shortly after a minute, however... everything goes downhill. First, it cuts the melody and makes a boring moment, then returns to the beginning melody. So... it had an unnecessary bridge to return back to the beginning of the song... and even then it goes back to that bridge towards the end, to return back to the melody so it can... cut itself off? It's a terrible way to continue a song like this. It ruins the song that it started off to be, instead of maybe doing a bit more. Hell, toss some goddamn piano trills in here, it'd work. Not really a music writer so I can't tell you what else they could do, but it wasn't what they did. Oh, I want to say I had to spoiler the picture because it's probably after some case. I think it looks better than simply him copying Phoenix's signature objection... I really should play the PW stuff eventually... just lazy and have to emulate.

Well, to straight up say... dubstep is not a genre I actively listen to, because it's a genre that's pretty hit and miss for me. This song was one of those misses, it has a lot of potential since they used it to perfectly grasp a song of Rashid's nationality, while capturing how dubstep and parkour go together. If I played Street Fighter, maybe having it as bgm there would make it a lot better, especially when his master of wind makes him a prime subject of being my second main. Another character steals the spot of my true main, but I can't quite say that with a few SF characters in here. Maybe that person is among these, maybe not. To be honest, I felt I may have been harsh on it after starting this write-up, but as of right now... it's just not a song I can exactly move higher right now either.

Sorry, it's just not in my taste. Of course, I can't comment on the character, I know basically nothing about the series.

Entertainingly, the link Lolo gave... the owner took it down (probably copyright things). So I don't know the quality here, but it's what I had to get. As you can see, we've risen from a song rating of 2 to 4, skipping any threes. Usually 4s are just they're definitely still bad, but I can see a reason to like it. This song is kind of like your cartoon saloon song, with a ghouly background. It's not all that interesting to me. So it slightly works that I posted this song today... as today marks the start of 4/10 songs. Oh yeah... uh, character is hideous, but I don't know anything about her.

Similar rating, it just ended up a little higher because the surprise factor of this song was just... definitely something. It attempts to border screamo except only because people are yelling into their microphones, it doesn't have the hard rock to counter the fact that the vocals are literal trash in those moments. But eventually, eventually it breaks away... and suddenly becomes a pop idol song. Never did I like the song, but I sat there stupified for so long it managed to place higher than 100. I not only know nothing about this character, but I also know minimal about the game series this is from, so not much to talk about regarding Mute. Except that I decided not to haunt you guys by getting an image of her. I might get images starting next character.

Entertainingly, 2 is my lowest ranking here. I have gone lower to 1/10 on a song before, but ultimately it's not gonna happen in this topic. First off, I don't normally like lyrics in bgm, there's very few cases where I like it, and then there's worse cases like this song's buhbuhbuhbuhbabbling. Like what the fuck. It's a slightly nice-ish trumpet tune outside of that stupid vocal thing, which is what gets it to 2/10. Oddly, Monokuma I know one thing about... spoilers about Junko Enkoshima is actually operating him, and she was nominated in my antagonists ranking but I never actually had any research done on him specifically.

As you can tell, there isn't much else to my ratings, no specific pieces that tell you where I get my score from, and for that, I'm sorry. But the further I break something down the harder it gets to just understand what I'm doing. I'm not perfect in critique. Oh, and just ask if you'd like hints towards the next ones. I didn't do one for 100, but maybe I'll start on the next one.

It was one of my highest rated shows of the season and she was utter trash in any scene she was in. A character made to be made fun of does not make for a good character. If they're side characters, it's fine because it's more for main character development say like the other angel. But Satania was no. She brought down the score because of being a main character.

Never gonna say the show would be better without her, just would have been better with a more minor part...

And wiping the ep with her family from existence.

After plenty of a delay, I'm back and finished with these rankings that I slightly half-assed in the middle. Sorry! I redo writeups as I go anyway so it should work, even if I'm slightly off on what the low to middle rankings should be.

First off, I want to talk about how I did these rankings. Rather than have some sort of average between song and character, I felt like doing things a little differently. Everything is weighted from song rating (out of 10) and then character rating (out of 10) without using a decimal system (except in one circumstance). Basically, all songs were arranged by rating, and then organized by the character rating. When the characters were the same rating, then I went back and individually picked what song I preferred. The songs at 6 got really difficult because I had no strong feelings one way or the other.

Secondly, there's a lot of characters I either don't know, or had to scrap what little I know about them to award them a placement. Any character that I deemed having *no* knowledge about, got rated 5.5. This means they're lower than a character I deem average (6/10), but higher than one I dislike. Obviously it rewards those that nominate characters I know more than those that don't... And that works for me, fucking get into my tastes, my nostalgia tends to get wrapped up into these rankings.

Finally... I changed my sig due to not having anything I wanted to replace the usual gif during Fall season for anime... this contest... I'll finally make my sig a reward. The person whose average placement of songs ranks the highest (only those with the original max of 4+ are eligible) can choose the reward first, the one who gets the overall #1 song gets the other. I mentioned replacing my sig is one reward (with some disclaimers), the other is choosing my next project.

Next will be the list, I had to mess with game titles a lot (removed subsections to all Touhou, gave an acronym to some series...) at least everything will be fixed inside the rankings. They're listed game and song title. Nominators and the characters that the songs represent had to be forsaken because too many characters, they'll be listed when the song places.

I will do a full list of nominators though, and if it seems like you have songs missing... you probably didn't pay attention to my topic.

And hey, the stuff the anime cut still brought a lot onto things that happened, especially it helps you realize that you should mourn Esdeath's team because of things like what happened to Bors' family. Fuck that clown.

End of Fall 2017 rankings

This is my highest tier, it's all 9/10 stuffs.
BBB season 2 - Turning it on, I remembered that I knew nearly nothing about the first season and eventually had to be told that the ending was filler, as it was one of the few things I remembered from it. I like the fact that I'd hate half the cast if they were anywhere else and this show makes me appreciate a lot of them. I like that it didn't even retcon the whole filler ending to the first season, and I love that Michella actually walked right into the show... Well, got pushed onto the show, since ya know. But yeah, such a great character <3

Soma season 3 - Uh, utilized a few characters that I really like, introduced the Elite 10 well, and I still get a crack out of the fact that it ended where I thought it would. It just ended like... right after it. Aka: Erina learned that Soma is her idol's son, and then just cuts out right there. It was glorious.

Tier 2... 8/10 anime overall, something made them not end up a tier above.
Kino's Journey - There were a few really strong parts of the show, that a few countries, especially how the last one just flat out ended pretty instantly, just felt lifeless compared to other ones. It was an interesting show, and hit onto my anthropology really well, but was just too short overall.

Ancient Magus's Bride - I put it here... but I actually have no clue where it goes. Like, I'm so confused at what I even think of the show. I just love the animations of the magic and... Little Elias is adorable. That is all.

Just Because - I'm a little salty I just about predicted the ending, and considering I was basically like "yeah this is just how it's gonna end up," and my friend was like "nah man, it's an original, we literally can't know how it'll end." So it really disappointed me that I nearly got everything right. I knew Eita was gonna take the opening exam to the school Natsume wanted to go to, I didn't predict he'd fail it though. It's nicer this way since the ship can actually continue, but man... I'm still grumpy and it's why my Discord pic is what it is.

These shows weren't as good as they once were, so 7/10:
Altair: A Record of Battles - Historical fiction, ottoman empire... well... overall not the strongest character development. I liked the plot, but the characters just ended up a little too half-assed.

Children of the Whales - There's like... only one thing I even cared about by the end. If they implied that the eye patch dude was actually Nibi. I liked a bit of the plot primarily, but it turned boring past the first battle. All the best characters aren't leads.

Blend S - Typical of any non-romance that relies on a romance plot to move the plot forward, it just feels like wasted effort. Still a funny show, but there are few shows I'll like in spite of this.

Apocrypha - Second half turned to shit. Animation of battles were awful, a few characters were just disgustingly bad, and the ending was just a Fate mess.

My opinion is irrelevant and it's probably 8/10 on a rewatch:

5/10 tier:
Juuni Taisen - The Great Zodiac Race in battle royale format. Rat was just an awful character though.
