My older sister is moving out soon, and she's taking her cat with her. :( Her cat and mine are pretty close, always playing together, cuddling up to one another, things like that, and I'm worried that when she goes my cat will get lonely, so I'm considering getting another cat. Would it be better to get a kitten or an adult cat? My initial thought was an adult, but I'm worried about upsetting her, so I thought maybe a kitten would be less intimidating for her. How old is your cat, what sex, and is kitty fixed? Generally kittens are easier to adjust to in a new home. It really depends on the resident cat. --- Never write off the Doctor!

Does getting a male cat fixed make them more cuddly? Seems like ever since Porkchop got fixed all he wants to do is lay around, get cuddled and petted. He was pretty chill before and was basically my one year old daughter's best friend but now he lets her do pretty much whatever she wants to him. Which is a lot more than any other cat would put up with. She got spayed, right? Yes altering cats does significantly change behavior. Usually it's good for what you want in a pet. They're more cuddly and calm, less inclined to wander, not as aggressive or territorial, and may pack on pounds from their new lazy attitude. --- Never write off the Doctor!

It's more the sodium that's an issue with tinned tuna. It's an acceptable treat for a cat every so often. Try not to give it more than once a week. There's fish in most quality cat food, and the mercury issue will remain. Salt though? Bad for kitty! --- Never write off the Doctor!

Sounds like a great start. Kitten season here didn't get us many kittens. Our first litter just went. Two got adopted and the third was alone for a few days. She cried a lot. Cats do feel lonely and grieve over family/friends. Someone that adopted one of her littermates came back to adopt her. How nice! --- Never write off the Doctor!

Over the course of 3 days I was able to catch 3 of them. The other also died. We are now trying to tame them down. They are very small but are just old enough to do OK. We will keep them indoors and have them fixed. Sounds like you got them at the right time. Good luck with your feral cat socialization. --- Never write off the Doctor!

It's my mother in laws boyfriend's cat, he asked if we could give it a good home and I jokingly said "sure if you give me $250" and now he's bringing her over. I'm gonna use the money to get her and our last new cat fixed and get a nice cat tree. Sometimes they are surrendered and they know the name. Other times it's a totally random name. Usually if a cat has been there a month they will know the name by then, but they will adjust to another. --- Never write off the Doctor!

He's jumping around trying to play with her and she's just trying to lick him in between slapping him with no claws out when he gets too excited. Awwwwwww congrats! :3 Lokarin posted... I really like the Grump cats, Mimi and Mochi, adorable munchkins. I kinda want one, but I feel cats would want to thrash me at any opportunity. Action53 does have a good suggestion. Go to a shelter and pet some kitties and see how that goes. Cats are great pets for a lot of people, and if you were super worried about injury you could look for a ragdoll. They're bred to be docile little kitties. --- Never write off the Doctor!

She hates my sister's dog, I'm not sure how she feels about other cats. She's very vocal and affectionate, mostly lazy but occasionally likes to play. I'd recommend a young male cat. Female Female pairings are the most difficult, females are more territorial. The resident cat ids also more likely to accept a younger cat. That said, cats take a stupidly long time to adjust and you're probably ok with a cat under 5 years of age if you introduce properly and give them time. --- Never write off the Doctor!

Just have to keep her separated from the other cat so he doesn't chase her around and rip a stitch. That's good. She should be ok if she's not picking at her stitches. Now I'm seeing 7+. Which also sucks for the local bird population. I like when people put bells on the cats collar, however very few people seem to do it. I'm pretty sure my kitty is going to be 18 this year. I'd have to double check my calendar at home. She's obviously getting older but still is rocking it pretty well for a cat her age. It is sad.
