Could I get some cat advice please?
My older sister is moving out soon, and she's taking her cat with her. :( Her cat and mine are pretty close, always playing together, cuddling up to one another, things like that, and I'm worried that when she goes my cat will get lonely, so I'm considering getting another cat.

Would it be better to get a kitten or an adult cat?

My initial thought was an adult, but I'm worried about upsetting her, so I thought maybe a kitten would be less intimidating for her.

How old is your cat, what sex, and is kitty fixed?

Generally kittens are easier to adjust to in a new home. It really depends on the resident cat.

One of the strays my brother feeds - I call her Peachy, my brother doesn't seem to have a name for her:

The other stray my brother feeds - he calls him Hitler Kitty (black spot under his nose like a Hitler 'stache), I call him Adolf, or Dolf for short.

She's much easier to catch now.

The other two aren't getting fat, I think she might have a secret second home

Watch out for that, second homes often assume there's no first home. Then kitty is gone

Yes, she's fixed and she did get fat. I think she's eating her feelings.

You gotta reduce the food. Free feeding fixed pets leads to fat cats!

She came back after 2 days, I don't know wtf she was doing. She's not dirty or hurt, maybe she got bored and went on an adventure.

Does getting a male cat fixed make them more cuddly? Seems like ever since Porkchop got fixed all he wants to do is lay around, get cuddled and petted. He was pretty chill before and was basically my one year old daughter's best friend but now he lets her do pretty much whatever she wants to him. Which is a lot more than any other cat would put up with.

She got spayed, right?

Yes altering cats does significantly change behavior. Usually it's good for what you want in a pet. They're more cuddly and calm, less inclined to wander, not as aggressive or territorial, and may pack on pounds from their new lazy attitude.

Hey Doctor Foxx, is it safe to feed my cat tuna? Considering all the mercury and whatnot.

Sometimes!

It's more the sodium that's an issue with tinned tuna. It's an acceptable treat for a cat every so often. Try not to give it more than once a week.

There's fish in most quality cat food, and the mercury issue will remain. Salt though? Bad for kitty!

Our new kitty will be here Sunday, I already made an appointment for her and our new boy kitten to be fixed on Monday.

Excellent! Sounds like a great start.

Kitten season here didn't get us many kittens. Our first litter just went. Two got adopted and the third was alone for a few days. She cried a lot. Cats do feel lonely and grieve over family/friends. Someone that adopted one of her littermates came back to adopt her. How nice!

I found 4 wild kittens on the porch of an empty house. The mother was dead on the highway. A 5th kitten was also dead. Over the course of 3 days I was able to catch 3 of them. The other also died. We are now trying to tame them down. They are very small but are just old enough to do OK. We will keep them indoors and have them fixed.

Sounds like you got them at the right time. Good luck with your feral cat socialization.

One of my cats drools from petting.

That's awesome. Mine is the only one that I've known to do this, until now.

There's a huge 20+ lb cat at work that does this. It's gross at his volume. He slime trails you.

Our little calico that drools can have it triggered by singing and blinking to her. She is a lovely cat.

It's my mother in laws boyfriend's cat, he asked if we could give it a good home and I jokingly said "sure if you give me $250" and now he's bringing her over. I'm gonna use the money to get her and our last new cat fixed and get a nice cat tree. Any suggestions on cat trees?

I always wonder if it's proper to rename a cat you're adopted or stay with the name that the pet center had.

Depends on the animal.

Sometimes they are surrendered and they know the name. Other times it's a totally random name. Usually if a cat has been there a month they will know the name by then, but they will adjust to another.

She's going to put on some weight. If you free feed you should switch to set meal times and amounts to prevent her from actually getting fat.

I really like the Grump cats, Mimi and Mochi, adorable munchkins.

I kinda want one, but I feel cats would want to thrash me at any opportunity.

Action53 does have a good suggestion. Go to a shelter and pet some kitties and see how that goes. Cats are great pets for a lot of people, and if you were super worried about injury you could look for a ragdoll. They're bred to be docile little kitties.

We had a family meeting tonight and decided that we're going to get a second cat. Any suggestions? Or current cat is 2-3, female and fixed. She hates my sister's dog, I'm not sure how she feels about other cats. She's very vocal and affectionate, mostly lazy but occasionally likes to play.

I'd recommend a young male cat. Female Female pairings are the most difficult, females are more territorial. The resident cat ids also more likely to accept a younger cat. That said, cats take a stupidly long time to adjust and you're probably ok with a cat under 5 years of age if you introduce properly and give them time.

We like old people names for animals. I've had our seven-year-old cat since a kitten. Her name is Marta. For the (possible) new kitty, we're thinking Gertrude if we get a girl, and maybe Arthur or Earnest for a boy.

We've had a Gertrude (female grey & white manx) and Arthur (male orange tabby). They're solid cat names and both were great kitties.

I like cats/kitties but more strays and unwanted pets just makes me sad. There used to be one or two cats out and about in my area. Now I'm seeing 7+. Which also sucks for the local bird population. I like when people put bells on the cats collar, however very few people seem to do it.

I'm pretty sure my kitty is going to be 18 this year. I'd have to double check my calendar at home. She's obviously getting older but still is rocking it pretty well for a cat her age.

It is sad. Good that you are caring for your cat. 18 is a great age for a kitty. :3
