It still shows that momentum alone is enough to get an unmanned object to the bottom.

It shows no such thing. Especially considering it's not even a bobsled track, isn't made of ice, doesn't have anywhere near as steep of a slope, and isn't even a fraction of the length or speed.

Whatever you're smoking, you really need to put it down. I think you have a problem.

In this topic we assume that teachers dont work extra hours the other weeks to make up for all the school breaks.

"Make up" what? The school hours don't change and they have no course work to grade from a break because the kids were... on break.

ITP: lesson planning, adjusting to curriculum based on progress of students, grading (most teachers give exams just before break specifically because they take a while to grade and they'll have all break to do it), homework planning, and dozens of other things don't exist.

My mom is a teacher. She works year-round, because even during the summer there are adjustments to the standard curriculum that she will then have to incorporate into her lessons. Or pretty frequently teachers will be reassigned to different classes between school years, so you might have taught honors math one year and now you're going to be teaching remedial math the next. Which means all of your lesson plans from the year before are now essentially useless and you have to start from scratch to plan the year out.

This.

And as the thread title says "WHAT IF we rolled a giant ball down the track?". Or even a unmanned sled with a dummy for weight. The point being if an unmanned vessel could make it down in comparable time, then maybe we should be questioning the value of the "sport".

And we've already explained to you that the giant ball would not make it down the track, comparable time or otherwise.

But I'll tell you what. You go and be the test subject. Have someone lash you to a sled and give you a little push, and then you come back and tell us how your time compares. If you are physically capable of doing so by the end.

I see. So when you said "nobody's ever flown over the wall" you really meant "nobody's ever flown over the wall" and not "nobody's ever flown over the wall." Got it. How could I have been so stupid to miss that?

-_-

If a person who is attempting to actually control the sled and is capable of making corrections and adjustments on the fly was unable to stay on the track, what the fuck kind of back-asswards world are you living in where an uncontrolled object with even less contact to the track and no brakes would make it?

The ball would hit the turn even harder due to no brakes and less friction. It would bounce off the wall even harder due to higher speed and absolutely no course-corrections like the driver made. The rebound would then be even harder, and would lift the ball even higher and send it even farther out of the track. Especially considering the ball would actually contact the walls higher up than the driver and sled, which are engineered for the lowest possible center of mass to give more stability (something the ball would clearly lack).

There is pretty much 0.00001% chance that a ball rolled down the bobsled track would make it all the way to the bottom. The engineering team did not design the track for a ball. They designed it for a sled with human drivers.

That's assuming the sensors can only distinguish visible light. You do know they've pretty much universally applied laser scanning, visual scanning, infra-red scanning, internal sensors (wheel spin, shocks, etc), and a whole host of other information humans could only dream of being able to analyze while driving. Along with very sophisticated software.

Seriously, your sticking point of "finding the road" is just about the least troubling thing self-driving cars will have to deal with.

For the record, they're destroying those panels because the company that hired them to install the panels didn't pay them for the work.

Is it justified? Maybe. Shitty companies deserve to get shit on.
Is it smart? No, not really. They're still not getting paid and now the resources have been wasted. Probably would've been easier to cut the connecting wires and not allow them to be reconnected until the company pays them.

I don't think you fully comprehend how accurate the sensors can be. If you "tell" the car there's a road within 3 feet of spot X, and the car's sensors scan across and register "BUMPY TERRAIN -> 15 FOOT WIDE FLAT SPACE -> BUMPY TERRAIN" it's going to be pretty easy to register the flat part as the road and drive on the right half of that flat part.

There's no need to overcomplicate the thought process here.

Probably similar to how the GPS on your phone can handle them. It's got a map of the roads and can see its location, so it should be able to navigate the road. It doesn't know there's a right turn coming up because it sees the road curving. It knows there's a right turn because it's been told there's a right turn. The sensors scanning the surroundings are for additional precision, tracking, and obstacle avoidance.

That being said, they probably won't be allowed to handle the really shitty roads for a while. It'll get you close and then you'll be told to take over to get through extremely rough, uneven, or unmarked terrain.

Like, there's a bunch of gods. And they all got bored of chilling in nothingness, so they each created their own universe. And that universe is essentially their playground to do whatever they want. They all can see what everyone's universe is doing, but they can't interfere or do anything in the other gods' universes. And like it started out as just a bunch of gods chilling around entertaining themselves with their universes, making big bangs and shit (who doesn't like a huge explosion, mirite?). And then one god goes "Hey gods, check this out! You probably can't do that, can you?" And another god responded "God, that is so lame. I can do it 10x better than that." And then they all started trying to constantly one-up each other and it's been going for billions of years?

I bet our god is the weirdo loner outcast of the group, tbh. The other gods have probably come up with some really crazy shit, but our god is just lonely and depressed so he created humans to worship him because he never gets any attention from the "cool" gods. But even we don't listen to him, so the other gods just keep making fun of him, saying stuff like "you're such a terrible god even your own creation ignores you."

.............I think I should go to sleep. >_>

Besides, just because it's been a certain way for 10 years doesn't mean it should be that way for the next 10 years. If something sucks (like tank controls in literally anything that's not a tank), then it should stop being done. And more people causing a stir about it is the best way to get that to happen.

I kind of low-key hate the fact that the United States has appropriated the term "American" when there are several other countries on both North and South America who should be able to equally lay claim to it. Canadians are from North America, so they are also Americans. As are Mexicans. And since people from Brazil, Argentina, etc. are from South America, they can claim to be American just the same as those from North America.

I mean, I get that those of us from the USA don't really have a quick name like "Canadian" or "Brazilian" (nobody's stupid enough to think "USA-ian" is acceptable), but it still feels really egotistical to claim two entire continents' worth of naming rights, no?
