This is not correct. Something isn't required to be tangible in order to exist.

The existence we live in is tangible... as conscious creatures though, we're able to function through intangible means (thoughts, planning) to get the tangibles that we require to exist (food, water, sex). In a sense, yes, intangibles exist for the organism as an important survival tool. But outside of the organism's mind they do not exist. Just merely talking about the concept of importance does not prove its existence, like weapond00d seems to think.

Let me break it down for you, because clesrly you think the mind holds importance beyond its function.

Thoughts are not real. Concepts and theories are not real. The mind's only evolutionary purpose is to assist creatures in navigating existence, to provide a compass, so that they may survive. That's it.

All the concepts and bullshit meanings you attach to anything are simply the mind's tool to helping you categorize patterns and assist you in survival. It's a function that provides the illusion of "real". Once you (and all of humanity) dies, all of those supposed real concepts die as well. But the universe continues existing.

I was listening on the radio this morning to a woman who was calling in complaining that her boyfriend of 5 years didn't propose to her over the holidays, and she's thinking about leaving him. She's jealous that her best friend's boyfriend of one year bought her a ring.

Like...why? I get it's a social construct that's important to women, I get that. But to leave a man that you would otherwise spend the rest of your life with, just because he didn't get you a rock that somehow symbolizes long-term commitment better than an actual, genuine connection?
