| JScriv 12/31/17 9:45:03 PM #15 | Streets of Rage 2 is one of my all-time faves. SoR3 grew on me a lot though, almost on the same level, but its difficulty can be absurd sometimes. Not sure why the changed the difficulty so much with the localization. SoR3 has an awesome soundtrack too that is often overlooked and compared to the first 2 unfairly. Have you tried Streets of Rage Remake? | JScriv 12/28/17 4:47:48 PM #1 | I should probably preface this with I played the Wii version, which is probably the worst version of this game to play, but whatever. I dont own a Wii-U. Here are my thoughts: Great game, though also flawed. Liked that there was a lot of diverse gameplay, lots to explore, although the rewards for doing so were lacking. The best part of the game was the middle, when you have quite a few items and can change into wolf form and back at will and can finally explore most of the overworked. The beginning was slow and tedious at times, and the ending seemed rushed, with certain characters feeling shoehorned in. The Twilight dungeon and Zant were kind of a letdown. The graphics and sound were not as good as they should have been, when games like Metroid Prime RE0 and RE4 existed on the GC before this game came out. The music is beautiful but again, sound quality is lacking. I even enjoyed the City in the Sky music, which most people seem to hate. The game was pretty easy overall, combat-wise. The only challenging part was probably the Cave of Ordeals. The puzzles were pretty good and felt fulfilling to figure out. I liked all the different dungeons. The world was quite large, but mostly devoid of people and things to do. When you do find stuff to explore, you are usually rewards with more Pieces of Heart (which are useful, but again since the combat is so easy you really only need them for the Cave of Ordeals and the final battle), and tons of Rupees which are largely unneeded. There are only a few side quests, some of which are quite tedious and feel like padding. Like the Poes Souls. Seriously, 60? Many of which are not visible during daylight hours? And your only real rewards was Rupees, which you dont need by that point? Feels like bad design. And Magic Armor quest. Sure, having that Malo Mart in Castle Town was nice, but that Armor was the only thing you really needed to spend Rupees on, but its a completely impractical and unneeded item. Collecting the bugs was okay, but again, tons of Rupees I didnt need, and bigger wallets to hold more money I cant spend. Other gripes: Collecting Spirit Tears was a bit tedious, the whistle for Epona was nice but given way too late in the game when I can just warp everywhere, some stuff was a bit obtuse like finding random dig spots to find new areas. The story was also kind of weird, but I liked Midna. I know it sounds like Im ragging on the game, and maybe I am a bit because I feel like not enough people talk about these flaws when they talk about how great TP is or whatever, but overall it was a great game and enjoyed it mostly, apart from the times when it seemed to drag on. --- Stretch the bones over my skin, stretch the skin over my head I'm going to the holy land |
