Unless I'm somewhere posh, I like to stir my lasagne such that everything's a mess on the plate. It looks horrible but it's really tasty when you get flavours hitting your tongue first that you weren't meant to.

When I eat a burger, I eat the outside edges first and then eat the remaining middle section at the end.

Similarly, when eating fried eggs, I cut around the yolk and eat the white bit first. Then I eat the yolk whole. It's amazing.

Any of you fancy some "real life" Maths? This is the pretty basic shit I deal with daily. It's not quite differential tangents of second deviations of stress calculations, but think of it as a very basic engineering calculation.

The last, outdated report for aircraft G-FAQS showed that it had flown 15265 hours and 4431 cycles. Engine 1 was installed new at 1151 hours and 116 cycles on the airframe. Engine 2 was replaced with a new engine 5900 hours and 2200 cycles after Engine 1's replacement. The airframe (only) has had to take a 1.5x penalty on its cycles between Engine 1 and Engine 2 replacement. Engine 2 has, since installation, flown for a total of 21000 FH and 11000 FC. What is the total life usage on the current engines and the airframe?

I appreciate they can make damn good cars and I respect someone who buys an R8 - but, they're not my cup of tea. No big deal, we can't all like the same thing.

I see - given the comments from others here I expected more thoroughbred cars than TTs. I had a V6 TT about 10 years ago and wasn't particularly convinced (I thought it drove like a Golf and didn't put its power down very well), but I've not driven a new TT. I tend to go for quicker/more capable stuff tbh.

Same here. I usually go to the barbers in clothes that are due a wash, so that I can get home, chuck them in the machine, have another shower and enjoy my day without hair getting everywhere. I have Will Smith ears too so I always get hair all over them, which really isn't a good look.

I'll be honest, your friend sounds like he's dumping his problem on you. Tell him you would love to be in a position to help but, since she's far away, you can't drive, she's got baggage (no pun intended), and he seems to expect you to pay for everything, it's not going to work.

It's not your problem to know if she has a place to go or not. Send her $20 to go towards a taxi/train/bus/plane etc and be happy you've done your charitable deed.

Not sure how it works in the US, but a Megabus (coach) travelling cross-country costs less than a tenner. If someone I didn't know wanted a lift to Scotland (from London), I'd not bother, but if I knew they were hard up, I'd pay the 5 for the bus to take them there.

I am by no means a good cook, let alone a chef, but I can do a few decent meals. I spent my mid-late teens on the other side of the country from my parents, and my housemates instilled in me the importance of cooking a variety of simple but respectable meals. I can whip up a reasonable batch of chicken & egg fried rice, a decent spicy spag bol, a reasonable beef curry, an exotic spicy lean chicken and veg, and of course the staple medium rare fillet steak and full English.

Nothing in that list is particularly difficult to cook (the curry is the hardest and I just use a mix of pre-prepared sauces and some chilli powder). You expect to eat three times a day for the rest of your life, it's always worth having some basic skills to make mealtimes more interesting.

Most stuff is slightly cheaper than you'd find in the supermarkets (not by a lot, though) but their own brand stuff is really good quality. Their food especially; the steak is fantastic and the pizzas are enormous.

Only trouble is I always go in to buy one or two small things and end up buying shitloads of stuff to stockpile. I remember moving house a few years back and stopped by to pick up some mats and some cleaning stuff. I went overboard as usual and bought mouthwash, whiskey, fizzy drinks, a shredder etc and only when I got back to the car did I realise it was already full of all the stuff I was moving. I had to re-arrange the entire back of the car in the car park.

I ordered a Papa Johns a few weeks back, on a Sunday, at 17:30 for ASAP delivery. It got to 19:00 before I thought "fuck it" and went out to buy a McDonalds instead.

The pizza arrived around 19:15 and I didn't even bother answering the door, just told the driver to take it back.

Papa Johns started asking plenty of questions and took two chasers and over two weeks to refund me.

Last week I was "tasked" with buying pizza for the team (i.e. we've done well, buy food on behalf of the company). Pizza Hut don't deliver where we are, so it was Dominos or Papa Johns.

In an ideal world, one pays off their car in full and then enjoys the freedom of doing what they want with it. Keep it forever? There's no massive balloon payment to budget for. Sell it after a month? You get most of your money back with no fees. Modify it? It's yours to do with as you like. Service it? You can find the best specialists and do what needs to be done to keep it on the road, rather than having to live with an accountant's belief of how engineering works.

I always maintain that you should buy a car that you can comfortably afford 10% of it's original list price once a year should it throw you a bill. Buy yourself a respectable Peugeot 308 and you'll be fine. Rent a new 40k Audi and you'll be pissing away money every month until the horror of the first service and a change of tyres.

Used to walk home from school from the age of 8. My parents moved house so they lived about 200m away from the school. What they didn't expect was that I became Mr Popular because all of my classmates could stop by my house for a glass of Coke before getting the bus/walking/getting a pickup.

Bikes - pre-teens. 11 or 12 for independance, but only locally. When they get to about 15 they can do what they want.

Cars? Not sure why you'd let a 16 year old drive around as it's somewhat very illegal and very few 17 year olds have a licence - but if they're 17 or 18 and have their licence, then they're free to explore.

Yeah, it's just a tougher bit of beef. I've bought a few cuts occasionally and aside from flame grilling a wagyu cut, I never found it worth the extra outlay. I would much rather buy the best cut of prime fillet steak and enjoy the softest beef you can.

If you're in the US, I believe buffalo burgers are available quite easily. They are a fantastic alternative to wagyu burgers - reasonably priced, tender meat, and very tasty and nutritional.

I only ever had steak and eggs for breakfast when I was in the US. Steak is a dinner dish here in the UK. Is it not an uncommon dish to have for dinner?

Here in the UK a Full English is most commonly known as a breakfast/brunch meal, but nobody will complain if you have one for dinner. It's a little uncommon but not quite noteworthy.

For what it's worth, I love the occasional Full English for dinner. Takes minutes to cook, there's plenty on my plate (I'm a traditional six-piece man - bacon, sausage, 2 eggs, hash brown, beans) and with a pint to go alongside it just makes the meal somewhat more exciting than when I'm sat at my breakfast bar with a glass of OJ.

Last I knew, my mattress didn't give me free travel insurance (I travel twice a month), phone insurance (I have two phones), hotel upgrades (RE: travelling) and other bits and bobs (good interest rate, free magazine subscriptions etc).

My savings accounts - well, someone has to look after the money. Free travel insurance, phone insurance, hotel upgrades and other bits and bobs are by-the-by as I wouldn't really be accessing the money anyway. I doubt inflation is going to go negative any time soon.

My current accounts - I buy two or three cars per year and enjoy going in to speak to the bank manager to ask if I can withdraw five figures. You can almost hear the "missed targets" bell ringing as he desperately tries to find a way out.
