The Olympics seem like something I'd probably enjoy if it was 25 years ago. It's top-tier channel surfing fare, but all the entertainment advances we've had have killed the fun of channel surfing in general. Also stuff like ESPN2 has taken away from the novelty of seeing less common sports. The only enjoyment I get out of the Olympics now is mainly just nostalgia for when the Olympics were a fun entertainment model

Edit: There's also the internet spoiling the results of taped events though tbh I am usually able to avoid that pretty easily

Everybody randomly wins a batting title with the Rockies. They have something like 40% of them since the team was formed. Imagine if they had won 40% of something that was actually meaningful

It's funny how you are trying to argue about usage rate of cars in comparison to guns to dismiss an argument. Okay, but if you want to take usage rate into account, then it makes your argument about more car deaths pretty meaningless - surely cars lead to waaaaay fewer deaths per use than guns.

It was implied, or at least you were heading down that road. At best it might have evolved into the (also tired and facile) "we'd still have more people dying by _____ so why bother even doing anything about guns" argument. Nobody is saying that there is a perfect solution, but it's stupid to continue not doing anything

I don't get your point then. I wasn't trying to imply that reading Wikipedia is better for that kind of book. Admittedly it's a pretty huge exception, so saying there's no point with some exceptions probably didn't illustrate it very well. I just brought it up because older people I know (like my parents) are always buying books on info that can be easily looked up online and I don't get it but I'm from a different era so who am I to judge

Is there even much point to reading non-fiction anymore with the internet? I mean, there are some exceptions like biographies, but so many reference books seem like a waste of space and paper. It's even crazier to me that we still have books on things meant for tech-savvy people! Who is the target audience for a modern web design book?

But really, are the Giants supposed to be any decent this year? Because it was already pretty good last year though I expect the Rockies and D-Backs to regress. I mean obviously there are some ways you could, but it doesn't seem to happen as much as with football or basketball

I'm really bad at returning serves in volleyball but once the ball gets going it's not as bad. As long as somebody else can return serves we might have a chance of not getting shut out

Actually I'd put football at the bottom if we're talking 11-on-11 tackle, but 7-on-7 flag football wouldn't be that bad, probably above basketball. I just split the difference or something, my ranking doesn't really make sense

If softball is going easy then I think so is volleyball. But volleyball is also a good choice. I like that because being tall is helpful but most of the time when I play it the other people aren't that tall, unlike basketball.

I'd say softball > volleyball > soccer > basketball > baseball > football > hockey in terms of our chances

Softball maybe? I think we can rule basketball out. And hockey unless Socky and Slurpee can get around their teammates falling on the ice constantly. I don't actually know if Slurpee knows how to skate but he's Canadian so he definitely does

Do what I did and give up on HS sports and wait for college IMs. You can play those without much background and it's not super serious (at least not where I went)

Sometimes (rarely) I like to shoot around with the basketball at the gym and I'm way better at shooting threes than free throws. It's weird. Or maybe not that weird and it just means I'm a weak-ass weakling who can't get anything on my shot without jumping

Isn't that kind of old to be trying out for the baseball team with no baseball experience? Especially since baseball is a pretty hard sport where even the best players are expected to fail most of the time (well... maybe not so much in HS baseball).

Oh, another bad one was where I interviewed with a few rounds and one of the rounds was two guys who seemed totally disengaged. They said it was just because they just got back from a big lunch and felt all tired or whatever, but it made it hard for me to stand out and be engaging as well. You tend to play off and reflect the other person's energy, so it was no help.

I've had plenty of bad ones, but no big showstopper awful moments to easily pin one as the worst, so I don't know.

Worst I was treated by a company is probably when they canceled a phone interview with me and said they had already filled the position. Like it's one thing to decide not to interview somebody, but how fucking disorganized are you that you set somebody up for an interview while there is an offer out?

Worst experience overall was when the reception/security guy was confused I was asking for somebody for an interview and said "You look like you're twelve." Like even if you think that, you don't say something like that out loud. It's bad enough I can tell when people are thinking it, but nobody else ever says that. But it wasn't technically a part of the interview and I'm not even sure if he was employed by that company or just some third-party security. The actual interview was bad though, I remember them being very patronizing with "You haven't even done this stuff, why are you interviewing with us?" type questions. Well I don't know, why did you select me for an interview?

Worst actual interview, on their part, was when I drove 45 minutes and I only spent 10-15 actually interviewing. I could tell something was up and they had already made a decision, and later I found out they got an internal candidate. Fine, but just cancel my interview instead of making me drive and waste my time.

Worst interview on my part would I guess be when I was sweating so much and I'm sure they could smell me. First of all it was really cold that day, so I made the mistake of wearing a long sleeve undershirt. And then the whole process lasted like 8 hours (we went to dinner at the end), so it was just building up and stewing all day with no chance for relief.

Sometimes I like browsing gamefaqsgamespot on my phone simply because I don't feel like sitting down on my computer, but I inevitably end up just using a computer because it's always too cumbersome to read linked articles or quote/copy stuff properly and it just takes too long in general to do anything. I don't know what my point is here. I guess that doing computer tasks on a mobile device sucks ass but I've been suckered into doing so

I think YouTube or Twitch is the easiest way to get famous now but they still aren't mainstream enough to get put into stuff like that. But maybe by the time my YouTube channel is built up that'll change
