Either because you are always wanting something more/feeling like something's missing.. or because when you finally get what you spent so much time chasing (new lover, job, dream vacation), you find out it's not really what you wanted after all or the feeling fades so fast you don't even get to enjoy it. I literally just go to work and relax for 8 hours because I'm good at my job and I enjoy it. Then I come home, work out, cook/eat, and relax until I go to bed. On weekends I find something I like doing and do it. I pretty much enjoy 100% of this nice middle class American life. 10/10 worth living.
