I played that Layton vs. Wright game last year, then finally had the chance to play through AAI2. After that, I replayed AAI1 and started replaying the 3DS remaster trilogy.

Still never played Dual Destinies or Spirit of Justice, so I'll get to those after the Apollo Justice remaster.

I'll second that

Southbound was really cool, but not super scary. Blends together a few shorter stories like V/H/S, but in a more unique way and without the found footage style.

The Invitation was also a pretty cool "social thriller." Kind of like 10 Colverfield Lane, but more tense.

For one, it was a straight-up pyramid scheme. The guy told us that you only get paid comission and that he (the supervisor) gets paid more for employees selling more. Hell, they had to be intentionally vague and dishonest about the "interview" just to get people to show up there.

Second, it was literally door-to-door life insurance sales. Like, how do you even handle that with any amount of tact? *old lady answers door* "Hi ma'am, you look like you're going to die soon; please give us your money."

Part of what made it good was that people could choose which version they liked best.

SotFS was a fucking pain in the ass in a lot of places, especially in the beginning (statues everywhere, multiple Pursuers, Heide's Tower, etc.). I got all the achievements in SotFS and played through the last gen version a few times, but I still prefer the latter.

In what universe does buying, shipping, stocking, and dispensing a monthly box of food to every single SNAP recipient end up costing the taxpayers less money? Where would you even keep/dispense this food? I've never heard of a nationalized food bank in this country. If there are, there sure aren't enough around for it to be convenient (or even possible) for every recipient to go there, so that'd probably necessitate buying/building new facilities.

Did you even read the original post?:
The USDA believes that state governments will be able to deliver this food at much less cost than SNAP recipients currently pay for food at retail stores thus reducing the overall cost of the SNAP program by $129 billion over the next 10 years.

idk about you, but I'd put a little more faith in the USDA's estimate than a random CEman's speculation. Whatever the specifics, I really doubt they'd make that estimate without taking those factors into account.

What they did in 4 was clear, but the fact that they essentially turned the modern-day plot into "references references REFERENCES" in the subsequent games makes me feel like they're not committed to it as they were before

I mean, what else would expect? The loudest fans were the ones bitching about Desmond and the modern day stuff with every release. I don't blame them for just taking the "fuck it" approach.

And what made AC2's The Truth thing so interesting for me was that it was still a mystery. Brotherhood and AC3 didn't have the surprise factor going for them as much.

Black Flag, Rogue, Unity, and Syndicate all had some important modern day story parts, they just weren't laid out as plainly as they were in Desmond's story.

It was actually a sensible approach, if you think about it. So many "fans" bitched about Desmond and the modern day story anyway. The way they did it, players didn't really have to sit through those parts anymore, but there were still plenty of hints about what was happening for those that cared enough to pay attention.

Spoilers for those four games:
Juno escaped the Precursor site at the end of AC3, then hacked herself into Abstergo's systems. She reincarnated her husband in 4, then used Abstergo's Helix system in Unity and Syndicate to gather more power for herself. By playing those two games, we became in-universe characters that were contributing to the Helix and to Juno. At the end of Syndicate, she's powerful enough that Abstergo is about to attempt reviving her with the Shroud.

It didn't physically reset in DS2 though. Drangleic is a different part of the world from Lordran.

Yes, the souls and certain things do cycle, but the world itself only ever comes to an end in DS3

idk, with the Dark Souls series, we're talking since the beginning of the world, and the world going through many cycles and ages

and I think the setting is also important - if one of the endings from Demon's Souls, which takes place in a medieval setting, it'd be weird, IMO, for the world to start over only to lead to another medieval setting

at least in the Dark Souls series it makes sense, where things don't start over, but build over different kingdoms instead

The only time the world really "started over" was in DS3. That's why everything was converging together and getting warped.

The endings of DeS didn't really start a new cycle though, things just gradually turned into DkS/BB (according to the theory).

That mist mentioned there is supposedly the same colorless fog from DeS that brought all the demons avout in the first place. Lordran is a separate part of the world from Boletaria and DS1 takes place a long time after DeS.

What really sold me on the theory is that DkS3 had the damn Storm Ruler in it. It's not like the Moonlight Greatsword that From throws in every game just because, it's the same sword with the same exact powers from DeS.
