I think it's fair to say that running for President and actually being president are two different roadhouses. Republicans have been underperforming in special elections this year and Trump's approval rating on the most reliable documented level (nationally) shows him as a pretty unpopular president

Overconfidence is bad but it's over a year in and he hasn't really reached outside of his base demographic

my only concern with this interpretation is that state polling has been really iffy the last couple of elections. Pretty red tilted in 2012 (Obama overperformed) and then Trump overperformed in the Midwest

National polling (which was accurate to 1% MoE in 2016) definitely indicates Trump is screwed in 2020 unless something changes though so the sentiment is still there even if the electoral map won't look like that

It looks like total shit

I expected the trailer to at least try to glam things up to try and distract from the production but outside of the VFX being pretty (a dime a dozen for Disney movies at this point) it didn't highlight much of anything. Han's actor looks terrible.

The only people who actually believe that are people who have never been to Texas. There's absolutely no chance of this ever happening. Texas isn't the same as other super Christian Republican states. That is still a thing here, but it's mostly about being gun loving hard working people. Democrats being anti-gun is reason enough alone that this will never happen. Texans love their guns and low taxes.

I live in Texas.

Like I said, Dems on a weak year made an 8% gain in the state in 2016.

however I want to add that Texas is ultimately irrelevant, if Trump is losing Texas then he's losing a lot of very important states by much larger margins. It's the difference between a clear defeat and a landslide.

It's very hard to ignore that Clinton gained huge ground in Texas in 2016 compared to Obama by around 500k votes. With Trump's approval rating in the toilet here it's not unbelievable to suggest that, if Trump became unpopular enough, he'd lose the state.

I really think the Democrats are overstating the importance of their Alabama win. It really only happened because the GOP ran an unelectable candidate with multiple campaign-crushing scandals (admittedly if the Republicans keep doing this, the Dems might stand a chance)

The problem with this is that Jones won in a +30 area and polling prior to the scandal had Moore at around +10-ish. From what I gather, it was:

-Moore being unlikable in general
-Republicans performing poorly consistently since the 2016 election in special elections, even cases where they won (e.g. strong Trump districts going red narrowly)
-The scandals finally hitting him

Texas's demographic shifts are going to trend Texas to where it's on the map in the future in a way Alabama couldn't consistently be. There's electoral data to back that trend, the question really is "when?".

For consideration: Texas is as Red now as Michigan was Blue in 2012.

Basically, most people don't completely oppose the concept of taxation and if people did they would, per the rules of the relatively free society we exist in, fund and support an anti-taxation candidate. Otherwise, society at large has consented to being taxed by supporting and voting in a modern government and never popularly posing questions about how to get rid of taxation.

You having a fringe viewpoint that you're oppressed by it doesn't validate your victim complex. If most people don't see it as theft and are actively affected by it, you have zero ground to stand on, because it absolutely means society has more or less collectively consented to the concept.

If you take issue, go build a society without taxation or see if one exists that you could live in. You are free to release yourself from the benefits of Western society at no threat of gunpoint.

I'm sure there are some candidates in some obscure party that actively oppose taxation. Put your money/effort towards supporting them, or run for office yourself. There's nothing stopping you.

Which is also why one that's popular doesn't exist, for what it's worth: Most people seem to be okay with the concept since they actively benefit from public resources resulting from that funding.

In fact, very few, if any, people agree with the candidate they vote for on everything 100%. Not to mention, we have no control over whether a candidate actually follows through on their promises.

I think OP is discovering that society doesn't work around a worldview that opposes the concept of taxation.

I'm not sure why you're referencing a film made by a politician & activist rather than referencing the actual scientific material. You're presenting a scientific debate through two lenses

1: The lens of Al Gore, who has made a number of dubious statements on the subject in the past, who is not a climatologist.

2: TheBlaze, a highly conservative network with a political bias against the subject ran by a guy who is certifiably insane (Glenn Beck.)

The website itself makes a number of bizarre claims on the face of it while presenting itself in an incredibly biased manner;

-Claiming the sun might be behind the current set of changes despite solar activity progressively trending downwards for decades.
-Using short scale 2015 data from the arctic to say it's "re-freezing" without looking at the last several decades.

Generally, the sourcing in the article is pretty bad, and a lot of things are directed more at Gore & his arguments, but it clearly falters when it comes to talking about climate change itself.

No, 16-18 is entirely appropriate. I do think there should be some reworking, though. E.g -

-15 year olds who have sex with 16 year olds (or 17/18 for states where the AoC is 18) shouldn't result in charges that put people on the sex offender registry, and child pornography charges relating to people sending nude photos on themselves to their near-aged boyfriend/girlfriend are completely absurd.

Basically, use common sense and don't apply serious charges in attempt to punish teenagers for having sex.

-There should be consent laws regarding significant age gaps, conversely. A 30something going out with an 18 year old, in my opinion, probably isn't in the best interest of the 18 year old since the significant age gap (and by extension, experience/intelligence gap, due to the human brain not even finishing development until the age of 25) leaves room for the younger person to be easily exploited.

I don't really care if states roll with 16 or 18 (It's 17 in Texas) but there should be laws addressing big age gaps and there should be laws preventing irrational/petty parents or local districts from screwing over high school students on technicalities never intended when the laws were put into place.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the neo-progressive left just wants us to be embattled in a perpetual culture war because "muh past" instead of us all agreeing like adults that this culture war bullshit has corroded discourse.

Now, I'm not calling the right blameless, and that PragerU vid Shapiro did convinced me that he's a hack and conservative shill, but it doesn't change the fact that a large, popular media group publishes racist nonsense and seems to get away with it when the media would completely (and, in my opinion, rightfully) lose their shit if a comparable site like Breibart posted "X things black people need to stop ruining."

The problems are;

A: The neo-progressives who want petty revenge for generations-old injustices, failing to understand the futility.
B: The conservative wing creating a group of talking heads that use the Weak Man's Fallacy and equate these neo-progressives with the entire left.
C: The media's inconsistencies and irresponsibility in reacting to/reporting on these issues.
