I jumped into the series at outbreak so I always thought it was more about the virus than horror. I didn't know it was considered horror until i read it online so for me they were either always kinda clunky games with zombies or they were like re4. pretty much every one i played i kinda approached it like that so the slowly disappearing horror theme didnt bother me.
