TopicIs there any value in using booking websites for airfare or accomodation?
paladin_man

Or travel agents for that matter. The quotes you get are generally more than what you would pay if you booked direct (and you miss out on other benefits).

I called a hotel once and told them their competition one block down was roughly $20 cheaper per night. The hotel offered to match their rate and their complementary benefits. In addition, they threw in free breakfast and video game console rental (PS3, but I ain't even mad tho).

I get corporate discounts on flights with certain airlines so I usually go that route when booking flights.

The benefits of a credit card are pretty lit. Complimentary travel insurance, 0% foreign transaction fees, fraud protection, cashback offers, chargeback authority, extended warranties, and it keeps going.

CCs become even better if your employer allows salary packaging. Since credit card expenses are considered a claimable expense, you can basically claim ANYTHING you purchase on a credit card before tax.

You can't do the same with a debit card.

I would make sure I have a life jacket on.

Then I'll keep my eyes on a lifeboat that was sent down (preferably one that has less people on it).

When it starts to look like the ship won't remain afloat any longer, I'll dive and attempt to power swim to the lifeboat.

Better than sitting in the freezing cold water waiting for help.

This is assuming I was rejected from getting on the lifeboats on the first place for being male.

The inflation rate is about 2% here every year so effectively 2% of my work is absorbed by inflation. The interest rate helps alleviate that to some extent.

I was told that it would be a massive buffet, so I ate lightly throughout the day.

The wedding started at 6pm and was held entirely in a function center. I turned up with my friend at around 6.15pm and we sat at our assigned table. I could see all the food in buffet warmers towards the back of the hall.

The night started with all these traditional Islam ceremonies, meeting the bride and groom, followed by speeches and prayers.

8pm and food was still not yet served. Ceremonial proceedings were still occurring. Me and my friend were starving. Some guy gave a speech in Arabic which literally went for like 23 minutes. Nobody had access to drinks either (even water).

Eventually, after all the wedding proceedings, guests were asked to line up at the back to start getting their food. It was 9:45pm and the food was already cold.

My friend suggested we bailed during the Wedding for a Maccas run but we chickened out in the end.

Did. Not. Expect.

Insulin is subsidised here and the sharps are free to diabetics. I suppose that is our closest definition of free.

Regarding the free needles to IV drug users, proper sharps disposal is a big deal around here. Almost every public toilet has a sharps disposal bin. The government implemented this to reduce the risk of the general public getting pricked by a used needle that was discarded somewhere where it shouldn't have been.

However, I've found discarded needles on train seats on two separate occasions. So there are still some scum who don't give a crap either way.
