Justifying shitty behavior because "well it's just the way things are" is a stupid and no justification at all. Two people having different expectations out of one another in a "thing" or relationship have existed since the beginning of time... but those kind of relationships usually never work out in the long run for obvious reasons. I do think it's bit of a stretch to label it as scummy behavior on the guy's part tho, especially in this case. Or add up all the other auto expenses (insurance, gas, lease payments, repairs & maintenance, vehicle tax) then multiply it by total business miles/total miles Whichever is higher you can deduct (Source: I'm a CPA).
