In general, heroes seldom have mothers outside of children's programs focusing on child protagonists. Even in stories where the protagonist is supposed to be down to Earth or sentimental, they're more likely to have an aunt or a stepmother than a biological mother.

In action based stories, it humanizes the character too much to have a mother. You can't be a gun-toting, hard-drinking, bad guy killing bad-ass if you have a mommy in Connecticut. And the more fantasy-like stories often fall back on familiar fantasy tropes which involve the absence of parents. Such was a fact of life in the times in which those stories were written. Your mom and dad could die from disease and the "evil" stepmother could inherit the family estate.

Shitty final bosses too. It's like all of their creativity is used up by that point. Or they just have a set image of what a "final" threat should be and they go for that rather than letting their imagination guide them.

I wonder how many problems in the arts would be resolved if people didn't stand on ceremony.

The dude seems like a fucking douche, but this kinda scares me. The comments were made before he was signed on to do Guardians of the Galaxy.

There are things I've said online that I wouldn't want getting back to me. Some of my comments from the 2000s and early 2010s might come across as casually racist or sexist. And there are a lot of things which aren't seen as acceptable subjects for humor that were standard fare a decade ago.

In a way, it's sort of the new McCarthyism. "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the communist party?"

I always viewed Simba and Nala as an interracial couple. Simba looks like a white surfer dude and Nala reminds me of an African woman with short hair.

As for the others, I never really thought about it. They're talking animals, so they don't really have race or ethnicity unless it's factored into the character.

Seriously, I am so grateful that the 1989 version of Batman started with Bruce Wayne already as Batman and they casually pieced together his origins over the film. It's so much better than taking hours to establish a character and their background.

It's one of the cheapest tricks Hollywood has ever come up with: take the first act of the three act structure and make that the entire movie. And it's become one of the dullest, most monotonous film types. There's enough of them to rightly establish "origin" as a genre. The romantic picture, the drama, the horror story, the western... the origin story.

And, yes, this is in direct response to that Joker origin story movie. Feel free to correct me on the title because he's a villain and not a hero.

The Simpsons are yellow:

- so that people will recognize them when flipping through the channels
- so that the hair could blend seamlessly into the skin without a problem
- so that the Simpsons wouldn't have a race and everybody could project onto them

3 months ago, on NES, I beat him by the absolute skin of my teeth. He defeated me the day itself, Friday the 13th, and I beat him the very next night on Saturday the 14th. Final girl Chris defeated him with one health bar left as his fist was coming down for the fatal blow.

I promised him then and there we would have a rematch on the next Friday the 13th. Now there won't be another Friday the 13th until September of next year. Circumstances were just such that we were denied our rematch this day. It'll be a long wait, but I'm sure we'll have that rematch.

Movie. I suppose it would be possible to do an anthology film, but I think that would be risky. Even if you had movie quality visuals and strong individual stories, a lot of people would still feel like they were being expected to pay for a couple of TV length stories instead of one big movie.

Uh..... Godzilla: King of the Monsters was made in 1956? Why reuse the title if the movie itself is a remake of Ghidrah: The Three-Headed Monster?

Also, for those wondering about what Godzilla's firing at, the new movie has two flying monsters: Rodan and Ghidorah. My guess is he's aiming at Ghidorah.

It's kinda silly when people get mad that a character's movie counterpart isn't as attractive when every character is depicted as a 10 and only 2 or 3 of them actually have their beauty acknowledged in-universe.

If it's something that everyone has, it's not unique. And if it's an important attribute, it needs to be brought up in the story itself. You can't just make every guy tall, every woman beautiful, and expect the casting decisions to reflect that every time.

The problem with Cyclops is simply that eye lasers are a secondary power. If laser projectiles are your only method of attack, you're supposed to shoot them from your hands like they were a gun. Having the lasers originate from his eyes is like having a superhero whose one and only power is super-breath.

I begrudge the writers for giving up on Cyclops so easily, but the awkwardness of his superpower makes it an uphill battle for him to be popular; especially when standing next to Wolverine.

I have a copy for Super Nintendo. The only difference is that the SNES has a larger color pallet. Otherwise, they're practically identical.

It's a fun game. It gets a reputation for being difficult, but that's entirely on account of a glitch in the second level where you have to jump over an invisible branch. The rest of the game has a fair difficulty.

Other than that, it's a fun game which makes good use of the license and even features a few animals that were cut from the movie -- like a rhino and a leopard.

Has anyone played Last of Us 2? Is it any good?

I dislike the "politics first" approach in any context, but it makes a difference whether or not the game is actually good. If they're shoveling out a ho-hum sequel and expecting people to purchase in in the name of PROGRESS, they can stop that shit right now. If the game is as good as the first one, and they're just a little too excited about showing off how progressive they are, it shouldn't take away from the game itself.

Virtue signalling is annoying. I dislike it almost as much as mild discrimination; which is saying something considering it is a much lesser offense. But there's a difference between banging the gong in the name of progress and trying to use politics to sell a product of poor quality. *cough*Ghost Busters*cough*

It's one of those terms that's been ruined through misuse and overuse.

To me, a "snowflake" is somebody who is pretentiously trying to be unique. If someone dyes their hair green and buzzes off one side of their head, that person's a snowflake. Yet, somehow, the term became associated with emotional fragility. And like every other buzzword in this generation, it became incorporated into political vernacular. If you call someone a snowflake, you're a conservative.

It's like a political and ideological Civil War. There's no such thing as neutral terminology. They'll try to force you to pick one side or the other and, if you don't identify, they'll try to claim you for their own or as part of the opposition. Fuck that noise.

Disney be like,

Non-princesses belong to princes too.
Non-princes can have each other."

Seriously, before Aladdin, I think literally every guy who experienced romance was a prince whether or not it was essential to the plot. Things didn't get much better of the common man after Aladdin either. Elsa's gay or asexual, we haven't decided yet, but you can have her annoying freckle-faced sister or short-haired Rapunzel.

For a company known for its romance, only the princely elite ever seems to get a deal worth having. :v
