Topic | Had to report a kid for making threats against our school when he was joking. |
justaguy3492 02/27/18 6:41:55 PM #9 | Darklit_Minuet posted... I got suspended for this before xD See if it was just a suspension I wouldn't feel bad, but he's in a holding cell atm and because he was an 18 year old senior he could really be fucked. The detective said it's pretty much up to the DA how they want to go with it, and with the recent events idk if they're going to let a joke slide. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |

Topic | Had to report a kid for making threats against our school when he was joking. |
justaguy3492 02/27/18 6:32:54 PM #1 | I'm a teacher and this kid in class today decided to jokingly tell everyone that he was going to shoot up the school tomorrow and that he was gonna be the first black school shooter. This is a kid who repeatedly makes outlandish jokes and I knew he was kidding so I told him that it wasn't funny and he needed to stop saying such things. He continued so I had to report it. A period later I'm dragged down to the local police department giving a statement and he's in a holding cell until they can determine if he's a threat or not. I know you can never KNOW that these kids are joking, but he's known for going too far just to get a laugh and I kinda feel bad for the fact that he may be charged with a crime. All my colleagues said I did the right thing and that I'd feel worse if he actually acted on it and I did nothing, but I still can't help but feel I ruined this kids life over a joke. =/ --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
Topic | Do you believe college graduates are ready for 'The Real World'? |
justaguy3492 02/25/18 12:17:41 PM #17 | Funkydog posted... Basic life things. Getting out a loan/credit card. Dealing with paying bills, getting a mortgage etc. All just some good things that could be lessons for people whose parents don't teach them these necessary things. None of the things you listed are difficult and can easily be learned on your own. Should they teach you that you have to cut your food into small pieces before eating it too? --- Gt: justaguy3492 |

justaguy3492 02/25/18 10:25:19 AM #13 | Funkydog posted... Not even close. Very few actually teach you basic life skills you need as an adult and you can't trust parents to impart that knowledge. Like what? College teaches critical thinking and research skills which cover 90% of life. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |

Will the people who claimed CNN did wrong apologize? Probably not. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
Topic | It's 2018...why do we have kids going to physical schools anyway? |
justaguy3492 02/23/18 2:17:29 PM #5 | Carlbertomfg posted... I can't think of a single reason we shouldn't do this. Not one. School not only prepares you intellectually, but socially as well. I think people miss the value of being face to face with other humans and interacting in various ways. That said if everything else goes digital I guess cyber school WOULD be preparing you for real world socialization. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
Topic | Is it true you need at least $100,000 in emergency savings? |
justaguy3492 02/23/18 2:15:24 PM #3 | I'd say no. Most people say you should shoot for 6 months of your current salary tucked away in case things take a turn for the worst. If you can't find a new similar job in 6 months then you have a few other problems that aren't money related. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
Topic | How important is it to you that you own a firearm? |
justaguy3492 02/23/18 2:09:28 PM #19 | I have no interest in owning one, but I would like to know how to use one. Mainly how to unload it without firing in the event that I ever had to. I feel like all the stuff you see in tv and movies is just nonsense. I'm a teacher and I definitely don't want to be armed in the classroom, but I feel like it would be a good idea to know how they work on the off chance that a kid brought one in and I talked him/her down. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |

justaguy3492 02/22/18 7:09:01 PM #20 | wackyteen posted... well, school is a place where you can get suspended for getting jumped and knocked out If a student gets knocked out cold after getting jump that kid will not get in trouble. What you probably have issue with (and rightfully should) is that when a kid gets jumped and fights back it is considered mutual fighting. I'm sure there a few outlier cases where a student who gets beat up and doesn't fight back got suspended, but I can guarantee you 9/10 times it's for "mutual fighting". --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
Topic | seems like I'm involuntary house arrest it's unnecessary and inhumane. |
justaguy3492 02/21/18 7:02:07 PM #5 | Not sure what's going on here. You either are legally on house arrest or you aren't. If you got some ankle jewelry you did something to get put on house arrest, if you don't have a court order then you aren't really on house arrest... --- Gt: justaguy3492 |

Topic | TX school district says it will suspend all students who take part in protest |
justaguy3492 02/21/18 6:30:03 PM #74 | Good. A protest like this without consequences won't go anywhere. If you just walkout of school and nothing happens then everyone forgets about it, if you have to suspend hundreds of kids per school, and thousands across the nation, that's when change will occur. Civil rights leaders did things that got them in trouble and that is largely what brought so much attention tot he movement. I'm a teacher myself and a few kids asked me if I would mark them cut if they left class for the protest, I said absolutely, but I wholeheartedly support that they are standing up for what they believe in. --- Gt: justaguy3492 |
