I also really wanted the Zelda HD remasters, which the Switch doesn't have.

The main draw, though, was all the other cool shit you can do with a Wii U, but... talking about those things isn't allowed on this site.

Switch is gaining such abilities right now, actually. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch gets a port of Wind Waker HD too.

If the Wii U was ultra cheap that would be the good option. But I don't think there is much of a price difference at all so it's better to go for the Switch.

I got a Wii U with BotW from GameStop for $140. Getting a Switch with BotW would have cost at least $200 more than that.

But then you would need to buy a Switch anyway if you wanted to play its other games.

Wii U is a dead system and Nintendo is porting a lot of the games to the Switch anyway. Might as well go with the Switch. By the way, Nintendo is going to start charging for online by the end of this year. If that's your concern, just go PC.

A lot of people seem to argue that because it's in the constitution, it must never be changed because of some dubious "m-muh rights". Should the 18th amendment have stayed? Its repeal weakened the constitution!! Stop treating the constitution as gospel (hell, gospel itself shouldn't go without scrutiny either). The second amendment does much more harm than any sort of imagined benefits. You can see this obvious reality played out in pretty much any other first-world country.

You're living in a fantasy land if you think access to guns "keeps the government honest". Do you think our government is honest as it's been? In fact, the illusion of freedom is sometimes a bigger impediment to achieving true freedom than the blatant absence of it. People become complacent thinking they have freedom and a fair system, when the reality is far from it.

I feel the same way, which presents a problem since when I'm at work as a software developer, I need to continually keep up-to-date with new tech. I have to keep pretending I'm totally interested in learning the newest stupid framework that reinvents the wheel yet again. I feel like a pornstar sick of doing porn but feigning interest with claims of "oh yeah, I love getting fucked all the time, can't get enough!!" because I still need to collect that paycheck.

I think it's burn-out that originates from the daily grind of full-time work and which has seeped out to infect the rest of my life. At this point I'm just trying to give myself a break, but I still have to put my time in every fucking week so when I do give myself a week or so of vacation, it feels like just enough to catch my breath and stave off true burn-out, but not enough to feel ready to pursue learning with great interest like I used to do.

Well of course you hate life. Your job is meaningless and you don't accomplish anything. I'd hate my life too if I chose a career that poorly.

I don't hate life, in fact it's the opposite problem. I hate dedicating a huge chunk of my life to a job. It doesn't matter the job or how "meaningful" it is. I love video games, but I'd get burned out if I had to play them consistently at 40 hours a week (and that's not even counting things like commute). That's great that you're able to tell everything about what I do even though I haven't even mentioned what kind of programs I create. I'd love to hear about your amazing meaningful job, though. Please do tell us about this incredible job of yours.

I build great big things.

I get a ton of satisfaction from my job. I take a pile of useless shit and make things out of it. Not the best career, not the most glamorous, but I love creating.

Could you be any more vague? I also build great big things, but in software, which can do so much more than many physical things.

It's even more stupid because there's "tip inflation" where 10% was considered acceptable, then 15%, and I think the trend is now 20% or you're a piece of shit. It's a percentage, it already scales with inflation, but nope, that percentage will keep climbing.

I realized this back in middle school. My thought process went "After I finish school, what do I have to look forward to?" -> "Well, I see that adults typically work full-time jobs until they retire around 65." -> "The amount of time spent at school/work will not decrease, so really you'll be dedicating a huge amount of your life just working, then you retire at an age too old to fully enjoy your freedom."

It's why I'm very passionate about retiring early and it ranks among the highest of my goals. Whether I achieve it or not, I don't know.
