I'm pretty slow at progressing through games, so something like Oxenfree or a Telltale series is right up my alley for this. Longer games (like most RPGs) I genuinely don't believe I could finish in a month.

I figured the Penguin/Two-Face decision from last episode would reconnect here, no surprise there. I comforted Alfred whenever possible so again no surprise, and Selina is definitely more than a thief so I kept that relationship in good standing.

Revealing my identity to Vicki was interesting. It was clearly the best way to save Alfred. She had such a big disconnect mentally between Bruce Wayne and Batman that I figured it might break her a bit.

Finally, I went to Gordon's thing as Bruce. I agree with KCF, Batman is not really a press conference guy. It was a good way to give Bruce some good PR. And then we end with a Joker cliffhanger.

All in all I enjoyed the series. I am slowly chipping away at my Telltale backlog, but Batman season 1 is much better than all of The Walking Dead seasons except maybe 1 in my opinion. I am definitely gonna play season 2, eventually.

Batman Episode 4

Denied the Joker a favor
Stopped the fight instead of following Joker's plan

There was absolutely no way I was going along with the Joker or his plans. I figured I was getting out soon as well, given my connections and wealth, so I was trying to avoid causing any trouble until help arrived. I had no qualms in giving the bribe in that instance, in my opinion it beat running over people with an angry mob turning against me. I also decided to go talk to Harvey as Bruce because I didn't want to ruin Batman in Harvey's eyes at that point, even though there was no way I could talk sense into him at that point. The final decision was tough, protecting your tech from Penguin is obviously crucial, but I went with my heart and wanted to make sure Alfred and Lucius were OK. I got Harvey, but Penguin and Lady Arkham are still out there. I'm predicting episode 5 starts with me dealing with Penguin at a disadvantage to wrap up that choice.

Some other things of note, I had the game completely crash during my final fight with Harvey. The good news is the checkpoint system meant I barely lost any progress, the bad news was that instead of doing the cool finisher takedown I had earned it defaulted to the lame one instead (although it was pretty funny, I just shot Harvey in the chest with my grappling gun). Also my final decision was to tell Gordon whether Harvey should go to Blackgate prison or Arkham Asylum. I nearly clicked prison because I thought it would be better, but then Gordon essentially explained that prison was the cruel choice and the asylum was actually more merciful and could potentially help him out. I don't really think Arkham Asylum is "good" but I went with that anyway because he needs help more than punishment.

It's a Telltale invention. As is a villain going by the name of Lady Arkham at all.

Good to know, thanks. It being a Telltale thing would make it a surprise to everyone. It reminds me of Arkham Knight (spoilers for that): they claimed that the titular Arkham Knight was a completely new character, but it was just Jason Todd with a different secret identity.

Batman Episode 3:

Chose to back up Harvey

I've been all in on pro-Harvey choices, so anytime he is in danger I worry that will be the moment he turns, so I ultimately decided to help him. Montoya lived, but she hates Batman more, and it ended up costing a random cop his life, so that sucks. I wonder, would Harvey's secretary be the one who gets kidnapped if you don't go to help Harvey?

I played nice all episode, so no punching Cobblepot. I feared for Lucius' safety, so that plus keeping him nearby for Batman tech made me bring him along. I also did not intend on sleeping with Selina, but I ended up comforting her, and then she made some aggressive moves, and at that point it did feel natural to just let things go from there. Finally, Harvey still is Bruce's friend, and there is still good in there, so I went easy on him.

That reveal at the end though, what a twist. I did not see that coming at all, but fortunately I have been unintentionally stonewalling her a bit, so yay me? Also I have no idea if Vicki Vale being evil comes from the comics or was made up by Telltale, but if it is previously established it is beyond my knowledge of Batman lore.

I had the exact same thought! I was worried that my save may have messed up and lost my previous episode choices. Given how pro-Gordon I have been, that line made no sense. I guess that's just some bad writing.

Batman Episode 2:

Eased Falcone's pain

Continued funding Harvey's campaign
Saved Harvey over Selina

Some of those were pretty obvious. Of course it is better to give Falcone the morphine when trying to get information out of him, and of course I'm going to keep funding Harvey when the alternative is Hill. The visit to the mayor's office was neat, Alfred's warning about Batman's reputation swayed me over to Bruce Wayne.

As for the more difficult ones for me, Selina herself said not to trust her. Kissing her in the moment like that is a rather awful idea, although it was tempting to see where that would have went. Finally, the Harvey vs. Selina choice. At this point, Catwoman is a masked vigilante who has beaten up numerous thugs. Harvey is a mayoral candidate who was drugged and then about to me killed by the dude who just killed the incumbent mayor. Harvey needed the help way more, although I'm concerned that Selina might take it a bit too personal.

All in all, I'm still enjoying the season so far. I really, really wish Alfred would just tell me all the dirt my parents had. I keep getting blindsided by worse and worse information at inopportune moments, and it is really not helping Bruce. At this rate by episode 5 Thomas Wayne is going to end up being a serial killer.

Batman Episode 1:

Invited Harvey into the meeting

Interesting that I ended up in the majority for all my decisions. The only decision I actually agonized over was who to give the data to. Both seemed like decent choices. While Vicki Vale probably could have bought more good will, giving it to Gordon felt like it would have better odds at doing immediate damage to Falcone. Plus Gordon in my experience is always awesome so I want to be on his good side.

On the whole, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to continuing. My last few Telltale games have been The Walking Dead, so coming in to a different franchise felt a bit refreshing. Time will tell how well the narrative goes and how much my decisions actually matter, as is always the case with these games.

As for the story, I come into this with a pretty decent base knowledge of Batman lore, courtesy of the Arkham series and quite a few movies and cartoon series. Obviously Dent will become Two-Face sooner or later, our friendship with Cobblepot will be broken as he becomes the crime boss he is destined to be, and Catwoman will not out me as Batman anytime soon, as we are in episode 1 of 5 in the first season or a multi-season franchise. However, the deeper dive into the Wayne family is new to me, I have no idea if they actually did have legitimate mob ties. I'm guessing those rumors will turn out to be false, but that could go either way. All in all this was a good set up, and I agree that Telltale is usually pretty good at their episode ones.

Gameplay-wise I enjoyed myself. Playing as both Batman and Bruce Wayne creates a good balance in my opinion. My favorite bit was the detective part in the warehouse. It brought back memories of the investigations from the Arkham series; you're not doing a lot of brain work, but the game makes you feel like a pro detective. The Bruce Wayne parts also brought the social tension and anxiety via dialogue and decision-making that I love/hate about these games. I am definitely tired of seeing Thomas and Martha Wayne get shot though. Although it is necessary for Bruce's story, we have all seen that more than enough times.

Finally, the most important decision: Blue HUD for me. Normally I favor red, but blue looked the most aesthetically appealing in the examples.

I like to give myself a few days to digest between episodes, so I'll pick up episode 2 this weekend or next week.
