They literally admitted to taking just about everything from the Wii U version and adding some new mechanics to it, their words not mine

A baffling oversight is that Mario Tennis Aces doesnt allow players to directly choose which court they want to play on. A stage select feature is common in games like this, but that system works differently in Mario Tennis Aces. The game randomly chooses from the seven available courts, with the player able to deselect courts they dont like. The only way to play in a specific arena is to manually disable all the other ones, which is a much more annoying setup than a simple stage select feature.

The stage stuff off of this article, obviously I haven't played it so either they're wrong or you're right, but either way you're getting your feelings hurt for nothing

No yeah that article is 100% accurate.

You can't select a stage in local/online multiplayer.

The game automatically selects a stage for you from a pool of courts you've unlocked. The most you can do is go into "Customize Stage" and then toggle on and off individual ones, leaving on just the one you want. But if you want a different one, you need to go all the way back into that submenu to toggle it on and the others off.
Hell, it doesn't even fucking save your settings. So you have to toggle every court off every single time you start a match.

Here's the annoying part. The gameplay and the mechanics are awesome. Like, really fun, really great. The game is a blast to play.

IIRC some of these things only apply to online play.

Unfortunately these all apply to local multiplayer too.

Full length games are impossible in the game. You can only select a Tiebreaker (first to 7 points) and a quick 2-game Set (which is technically first to 8 points), so they're not even that different from one another.
The closest you can get is in the tournament mode (which is singles only, no doubles) which at least lets you play 2 sets of 2 games, and the Story Mode too.

The lack of choosing stages though is universal though for the entire game. You can't manually pick a court to play on. Instead, it randomly selects from a pool of them and picks automatically. You CAN toggle on and off the stages it picks from, but at no point can you just say "I want this one."

CPU players are locked in at the same difficulty whether you're online or not, too. So in other words, you can only pick Expert for both CPU in doubles, as opposed to older games which let you pick, say for example, Expert for one CPU and Novice for another. This complaint isn't a big deal, but is more just another random removal of a long-standing feature.

The forced split-screen is a pain in the ass when playing multiplayer where you're not on the same doubles team. So if you're playing local multiplayer with more than 2 people, or if you and a friend are on separate doubles, it forces you to do this janky vertical split screen, instead of just letting them adjust to playing from the back, or manually changing the camera like in older games.

So yeah. Game's not great, lol. (And that's coming from me, a HUGE Mario Tennis fan)

So the game finally released and people are discovering it lacks most basic gameplay options you'd expect in a Mario Tennis game, or pretty much any multiplayer game going back to the N64.

i.e.
-You can't play full-length games
-You can't select what stage you want to play on
-You can't individually select the difficulty of CPU players
-Split screen is forced and the camera angle can't be changed

Etc etc etc...

Some of the solutions/apologies from fans I've seen are lolzy as fuck though. Notably, since you can't actually play a full-length tennis match (just short 2 game sets) someone literally told me it's you actually can play 6 game sets, you just need to play the 2 games over and over again, then resetting back to the menu, while keeping track of the score in your head, to simulate a full length tennis match lol.
(To demonstrate this point, this is basically like if Mario Kart tracks only had 1 lap, and someone suggested you can just play the same track 3 times in a row, and it's fine)

There's also people saying not being able to select your stage is a good thing because it makes the game go faster. And there's also the usual Nintendo Defense Squad defending the online being featureless and locking characters behind monthly online tournaments.

I'm still really baffled where all these horror stories are coming from with Gamestop. Not that I go there very often, but the times I do, the only things they ask me are "Do you have a powerup rewards card?" I say "I don't" and then they ask "Would you like to sign up today?" and I say "Nah no thanks."
That's fucking it. Once in a while they ask if there's any games I want to preorder, but it's not even everytime, and if they do it's while they're ringing my stuff up anyway.

Nothing Gamestop asks is more than any other places with membership services. Panera does it, most restaurants try to upsell, Best Buy does, almost every grocery store too, it's how stores work now.

It was a funny joke at first but I'm actually starting to be convinced that all those complaints legitimately are from unadjusted turbonerds and 16 year olds, who only ever leave their home to buy a video game. Because any fucking grown human is used to employee scripts by now from shopping anywhere.

Nah, believe it or not but Kirby is one of the most powerful characters in all media if you look into the lore surrounding the character. Each game seems to make him more and more over the top.

At this point he's a being with an almost indestructible body, housing a black hole/other dimension inside his stomach, capable of eating realities, who has unlimited energy, absurd feats of strength, and all with the cherry on top of being able to copy his enemy's own super powers.

Those stores are holes that are used more often by kids as free babysitting than to buy things.

Based on my own experiences actively shopping from both of those chains, I don't think that's really accurate.

Even if it is, I remember being a kid and going to a Toys r Us or Funcoland and regardless of whether my parents were buying something that day, it was an awesome experience to just be standing in a store surrounded by toys or video games.
It's sad to think kids will be growing up without that now.

I do the same, TC. Me and my fiancee wake up at fucking 10am every Saturday, practically high fiving and going "Lol imagine having to get up early on a Saturday cuz you have kids".

Honest to God, I would say like 80% of friends/family I know with young children all look and sound fucking miserable.

Super Sonic, Shulk, and Ganondorf all possess godlike powers, which is more than anyone in Avengers can manage, unless you're counting Thanos (which op says you are), but then it gets tricky with him.
