Disable Windows Update, Windows Module Installer and Superfetch. Those are what causes it to reenable, IIRC.

I've done that. And now once a day I get a blue screen that tells you to install the newer updates. I don't know how to disable that one, but it's better than the update happening automatically.

At this point it isn't automatic, it's in limbo and it will keep popping up a message every hour. I'll get a screencap of it, although you can probably imagine what I'm talking about. I could probably use the picture when I reference anything involving things being forced down your throat.

Yeah, it did that for me.

First it was once in a while. Then it was once a day. Then it was multiple times a day. Then it started installing automatically without my permission.

But if you don't want my help, then fine.

iPhones are apparently a money sink because while I can get housephones to last 10-15 years that cost 1/10 less, people end up buying 5 phones in a year because they shatter if you even look at them funny. And a case won't protect it from a direct blow.

My tracfone was either $10 or $20 and it serves the purposes I need, albeit without the extra accoutrements. I have no time at work to dick with it anyway. 2 years later it's just scratched because I kept it in the same pocket with my keys.

I figure sooner or later I can turn to third party or indepnedent software that wrests control against the unethical parts of W10.

I actually have no idea what happened tbh. I updated malware bytes and then the laptop wouldn't shut down. It just acted like it was restarting and rebooted itself. I did a hard shutdown and then when it booted back up it took me to the emergency screen and refused to go to windows

I had to reset the computer. I think it somehow fucked with the BIOS when it got updated. It was likely a number of factors with the malware bytes being the final straw

I couldn't give you any ideas. I had to be patient with the boot cycle. I ended up doing this TWICE and on the second time it rebooted about 4 times before I could regain control and unquarantine the items *again*

It looked like when I scanned it came up with a file that looked important.

At least you know why I don't "upgrade"

If you had important files, I could have salvaged your drive if I had the computer, but three things...

1:I would need to extract the actual hard drive
2:Your computer could NOT under any circumstances be reassembled or repaired
3:You'd need to buy the right tools.
4:I have not done it on a laptop yet.

I learned to do this myself when my desktop computer of 10 years got it's motherboard fried.

Also....you shouldn't have given up so easily. A reformat is an absolute last resort. Keep rebooting you might regain it in safe mode. You may have been able to access the quarantine or do a system restore.

Malware bytes update killed my laptop so based on that Windows Update > Malware bytes update

Before I got a new computer Malwarebytes detected files which when quarantined did cause boot problems. I regained control and de-quarantined them. Did that happen to you?

Malwarebytes will do a scheduled scan in the background. That I can change. I have not been able to assess what it does at all when it goes back to the Free version on 10, however.

That motherfucker wants to pop up every hour, and it doesn't matter WHAT I am doing. For one, I'm gonna get real sick of seeing that pop up while I'm playing Stepmania, and that is NOT the time for it to pop up.

Malwarebytes just brings up the window every time I boot up, and all I do is close that out. It's what Malwarebytes does in the background that causes a hiccup.
