The Classic and X series both kinda fluctuate

Battle Network kinda drops off after 3 before picking it up for the finale with 6

Star Force starts and ends on good notes but 2 is definitely a low point

ZX and Legends are both too short lived and unfinished (and probably never will be)

The Zero series though, damn. All 4 of those games are fantastic. It's one of my favorite series to just power through back to back.

The only problem with Spirit of Justice is its extremely predictable ending. Also too much Apollo, but at least it finally wrote Apollo out of the story.

Eh, I still don't like how Capcom chickened out on making Apollo the main protagonist. Yeah he was kinda weak in AJ but that's because he was in Nick's shadow the whole game. I think Nick should have been written out honestly.

Not really, since it was the 80s. The trope here is similar to... to what 2012's 21 jump street did, where what's seen as cool and lame has completely changed from the previous decade or 2. Similarly, we can see today that nerds can be bullies and jocks can be kind friendly souls. The traditional 80s archetype of nerd, jock, burnout etc as seen in the classic movie the breakfast club has become a mishmash of all the different stereotypes.

You could interpret it that way, yeah, but I still think there's evidence that implies that the Cobras weren't necessarily bad kids to begin with. There's a flashback where we see Johnny before he joins Cobra Kai. He's shown to be a bit of a wimp and mama's boy. He's clearly not the same after being in Cobra Kai for a while. It changed him.

That's minor spoilers.

"No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher." - Mr. Miyagi. This is literally one of the major themes of both the original film and the series.

The whole Daniel being the real bully thing is a meme that needs to go away lol. Johnny was the main aggressor throughout the movie.

Daniel admittedly did have anger issues that didn't help the situation but that sounds like victim blaming.

The only time Daniel was the aggressor was the hose thing, but that was more of a harmless prank than an attack and Johnny took it too far.

It's a good show. Characters are written well, and it has a lot of that 90s, 00s vibe to it like Boy meets world.

Is the show depressing throughout? First 10 minutes and I'm like ugh, really don't want to see an aged old man beating up a bunch of kids (mobsters/bullies though they may be)

Which sounds weird since I was fine with it in the original movie and the garbage remake that had a sympathetic enjoyable performance by Jackie chan (and crappy everything else)

There are downers, but it pays off. It's ultimately a feel good show imo.

Yeah a lot of it is about Johnny's growth as a person. The series focuses heavily on Daniel as well.

Even if it isn't fun Kojima fanboys will just say that it's not supposed to be fun and that the lack of amusement is intentional on a deep meta level and we all fell for it.

Kinda like how they said MGSV feeling so soulless and empty was supposed to symbolize the phantom pain of losing a limb, hence the title.
