Huh, Gundaminfo just put F91 on Youtube. That came out of nowhere.

That's pretty slick. F91 was my introduction to Gundam and consequently became my favorite main suit (and first gunpla, too). The movie has its flaws but I love it for what it is.

@SDBZ I ordered Fafner (the season one/movie set). I'll start watching when it arrives.

Other than that, I read the OG Cutie Honey manga to try and fill in some knowledge gaps. @Calwings here's the highlights:

-Panther Claw is after the Air Element Solidifier (or whatever it's called in the show), which can basically alter matter into different states. At least by this point in the manga, they killed her father Dr. Kisaragi, for failing to produce the device...

-because Honey has it inside her robot body. That's how the Honey Flash changes her clothing, but in the manga there's some other neat tricks as well (for example, making her spit explosive by turning it into nitroglycerin).

And that's basically the most relevant information cause it's only two volumes. Going over the other versions, it seems Honey being involved with the police is lifted from Honey A Go Go! A few more similarities: the jewelry store robbery, Honey Flashing into her motorcycle form, the white rose and Nat-chan being beaten and tied were lifted nearly scene for scene from the manga.

Now let's just hope it doesn't end like the manga, cause holy crap everyone dieeees.

I haven't seen Fafner yet but the first series set's been on my radar for awhile. I think I might just pick it up...

Just finished episode one of Cutie Honey Universe. The fanservice was fine in both senses, except I could've gone my whole life without seeing Boss as a woman.

I should've taken a screenshot for comparison but her motorcycle form has to be a callback to Tsubaki from Jeeg. Pic for reference:



Sister Jill and Honey's dynamic (haha) reminds me a lot of Jun and Asuka from Devilman Lady, too.

Anyway, overall I really enjoyed the ep. Looking forward to next week's.

Oh, that explains why Cutie Honey sounds familiar. I feel like I should check out the original Devilman among other stuff since I enjoyed Devilman Crybaby so much.

The OG manga is short and sweet at about five volumes. I highly recommend it.

As for the OG anime...it's a '70's Toei adaptation and those are definitely an acquired taste.

But definitely check out the manga. I think Seven Seas just started releasing it in English, maybe?

Fought a Nibelsnarf. Compared to my usual DB runs on him, GS was like the sky splitting and a host of angels descending to bless the every swing of my sword with a chorus of blood and thunder.

And yet I still can't cut that stinking tail!

Finished Third Gundam movie. It was pretty good. Two was definitely my favorite though. Aside from taking out some of the cooler goofy stuff, I think I like the movies better than the show overall.

Gypceros is so weirdly designed though, I've never been able to stomach his fights. It's like Capcom had six chickens but could only fit one more in the game, so they crammed everything into him. I might hate Rathalos too, but his design isn't:

-Rubber
-Poison
-Flash
-Cringey faint
-Breaks target cam
-Steals an item

Plus his armor is ugly <_< >_> <_<

I've got some other stuff to see before I start this but I'm liking the variety of kits they've got going on this time around. Red Shoulder Grimoire, Penguin Kapool, stuff from AGE and such.

Fought a Gypceros in XX. I hate Gypceros. Please don't make me fight him anymore....

Also watched Soldiers of Sorrow. Ai Senshi is a great song and the movie was wicked fun. Like forty, forty-five minutes of Ramba Ral and my favorite MS, the Gouf, followed by some classic Amuro crying and Bright being a gigantic bastard. Jaburo was really well animated throughout, too.

Fought Gendrome, Cephadrome and Velocidrome. Gendrome was eh and Veloci was fun as usual but holy hell does Cepha suck. Definitely should have run DBs against him but at least GS got the job done in comparatively fewer hits. Next is Tetsucabra, the terrible frog.

So I guess the purple bar has something to do with daily/bonus mats. Might turn useful, eventually.

Killed some Rhenoplos, haven't done much else.

IIRC Gen had a few variants but their deviants had too many redundancies. Narg/Raths didn't really need extras, and though I enjoy fighting his usual appearance, neither did Zinogre. Adding "fight me twenty times to get functioning armor" on top of that kinda turned me off from them, too.

Great Maccao got the shaft though, since every other "first" had its cousins or whatever you'd call 'em. Great Jaggi/Wroggi/Baggi, Veloci/Gen/the-red-one-I-can't-recall-drome. Poor Maccao doesn't have anybody.

Wrecked Great Maccao. Poor guy just wanted to hop around...he doesn't even have any variants.

What must be a new mechanic that I don't fully understand is the urgent was offered through the regular menu, but also by a purple-toned bar. So I've gotta look that up and see what the deal is.

As for actual anime stuff, I watched Meteopolis today. It was one of my remaining DVDs from last year...the previews were Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (SUMMER 2001! AMERICA ONLINE KEYWORD: FINAL FANTASY) and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (in Japanese!). Time is starting to creep up on me...

Started XX. Lots of kanji, but it's not too difficult atm. Gotta hunt Great Maccao today, though I am wondering if I should focus more time on the "Harbor" area than village. It's probably bad I can't remember the real name of that area but w/e.

The new styles seem legit tho. Alchemy in particular I like, but since I'm soloGS for now I'm either going to do the basic style or Brave.

Acquired S1 recently on the cheap for a rewatch, and yeah, it's pretty swell. Nice floofy hair, kick ass robot action, wrapped up in some real contemplative moments. I just didn't like S2 as much. Too bad Shirow went off the deep end with his works.

Damn, that's a nice list. Thanks a ton. Only seen Outlaw Star out of the bunch. Spaceship stuff is alright, it definitely falls into mecha territory but I haven't dipped far into that end yet.

Anyway. At first glance Izetta looks pretty rad, but I might just start from Kill La Kill and work my way down. Are the Certain Scientific/Magical shows related at all or does watch order not matter?
