For real. They really blew out Microsoft at the beginning of the gen with their pro-consumer rhetoric. And for a brief time, they lived up to what they said on the E3 stage... but they've been slowly boiling the frog ever since then. As Sony's market dominance grows, so too does their arrogance. It's a vicious cycle with these companies and I've come to expect it. Fool me once, shame on me.

I disagree that impressions are meaningless without footage, but to each his own. Impressions aside, I'd judge this based on CD Projekt Red's pedigree, with an emphasis on The Witcher 3 in particular. I expect that they'll maintain that level of quality, unless or until they give me a reason to doubt.

Cyberpunk 2077 had the best trailer, easily for me. Everything about it stood out-- the music, the colors, the crazy shots of people being hacked, the awesome title card / logo... and it all kicked off with the end of the MS press conference being taken over.

I don't know that it'll be the best game when it finally comes out, but it presented the best, and that's all I can really judge on for now.

Yeah, I kinda' wonder whether Melee is actually a superior game or if the fanbase is mostly just locked into it because it's what the community grew around, and no other Smash game will ever copy it perfectly enough for them.

And I do mean "kinda," because the pro scene is above my head. Intuitively, I like how Smash 4 feels, but I can't even begin to have a serious debate about it.

Smash 4 uses Havok
Ultimate uses Unreal Engine 4
Many animations are apparently retained, but make no mistake there's physics differences. For example launches are a lot different. When a character has a lot of knockback, it's all up front in a very quick launch followed by gaining control of the character. Besides that, perfect shielding and the new dodges are a very big change that gameplay undoubtedly had to be balanced for. Ledges appear less easy to grab but that's admittedly speculation.

The game moves a lot faster due to nerfed defensive moves and high damage.

I had no idea. That's great news, imo. Thanks for the info!

Depends on what you're trying to measure. I was way more excited by what I saw at Microsoft's conference, but most of those announcements weren't really theirs. Sony's conference was clunky but I have to have those exclusives.

I have to give it to Microsoft for putting on a hell of a show. They didn't sell me an XBox but I was thoroughly entertained.

They did reveal a lot of interesting games, but I can play just about all of them on my PC. Their final game was a game I plan to get for PC.

That's a fair point; I can understanding grading the conference on that basis. Truth is, I'm planning to buy a ton of those games on PC and PS4 as well, but the conference hasn't convinced me to run out and buy an XBox. So there's an argument to be made that Microsoft is just riding on other companies' announcements and the conference didn't do much to showcase why Microsoft is special. (One caveat though: the studio acquisitions are a big deal for MS, although we'll have to wait a while to see how those pay off).

I should clarify that my score is just from the perspective of how excited and entertained I was watching the show, totally disconnected from what it means for MS.
