Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder were both perfect at the time, but their movies don't really compare well to today's super hero movies.

Jafar, if he counts. He's a "Sorcerer" for a short while, at least. He almost doesn't count though since his powers aren't earned, they're artificial.

6) The character cannot change job classes.

hmmm, that might invalidate him actually. up to you I guess.

I dunno if it's my favorite, but I'm super impressed by BattleTech/MechWarrior, especially because of how plausible it is.

Overly simplified version:
In 2107 we invent FTL. By 2116 we're colonizing Tau Ceti 4, and from there galactic expansion explodes. We colonize up to around 30-50 light years from Earth, forming a rough sphere with Earth at the center. This becomes known as the Inner Sphere.

Wars and fracturing happens, and the Inner Sphere ends up forming 5 Great Houses, and in the very center the Terran Hegemony surrounding Earth. In the mid 2500s, the Star League is formed, uniting the 5 Houses and Terran Hegemony in what would become the peak of human achievement. The Star League lasts 6 generations, almost 200 years.

The 6th leader of the Star League, Richard Cameron, is betrayed by his advisor Stefan Amaris and assassinated. Amaris exterminates every last person with Cameron blood, and makes himself emperor of the Star League. Aleksandr Kerensky, the leader of the Star League Defense Force, fights his way to Earth and liberates it, killing Amaris and his line. Kerensky then takes the remaining members of the Star League Defense Force (who suffered 75% casualties in this war) and leaves the Inner Sphere.

The Star League is left in shambles, the Great Houses fight amongst themselves and fail to decide who should lead, and the Succession Wars begin. Basically, the Great Houses fight themselves into a small dark age, targeting each others infrastructure, and slowly falling backward technologically. A new concept is born: Lostech. There begins to be fewer and fewer people left alive that know how the remaining tech works, and fewer and fewer places where it can be manufactured. This becomes a more and more serious problem as time goes on.

After 2 centuries of post-Star League war, Kerensky's descendents return in a surprise attack on the Inner Sphere. Where the Great Houses had been languishing in the Successor Wars, the descendents of Kerensky, now known as The Clans, had not, and are now even technologically superior to the old Star League. And so begins the Clan Invasion.

Most (all?) MechWarrior game stories take place during the Succession Wars, either before or during the Clan Invasion.

way more details can be found at this wiki: http://www.sarna.net

most of this is summed up extremely nicely by the BattleTech intro cinematic:

I think it's kind of a false question, shouldn't it not matter? Choice or not, who cares? Be gay, don't be gay, whatever.

Saying "they didn't have a choice" is sort of partial granting that there's something wrong with it, just that they can't fix it, so we all have to live with it.

the picture demonstrates B, whether that is or isn't why real giraffes have long necks, or even whether darwin's theory is correct or not.

Isn't Lamarcks theory pretty much the exact same as Darwin's, except with multiple organisms? For example, as trees get taller, giraffes also get taller?

I never understood how they were different because they essentially explain the same thing.

Lamarck is about "acquired characteristics being heritable". so, things you do during your lifetime will be inherited by your offspring. for giraffes, the physical act of stretching to reach leaves causes them to have longer necks, and have offspring with longer necks.

Darwin is natural selection, so simply that offspring have variation, and those less fit to the environment have less chance of success, and vice-versa.

Lamarck's theory is considered false, but there is now similar study in an area called "epigenetics" where we're discovering that it does seem like there are some traits that are inherited without having anything to do with DNA.

left should move my character left, so if I'm standing on the left wall (head pointing right), left should be up and right should be down, and the reverse for a wall on the right.

even though I think that makes sense, sometimes you try it out and it just doesn't work. it's the kind of thing you have to experiment with to make perfect, you can't just work it out in theory.
