If he wasn't in his right mind then there should have been doctors and nurses around. If he was left there with the cops then it seems someone thought he was currently alright to be alone. Which obviously was another problem. If he was all well and good then my comment would apply.

Another example: Two drivers get into a verbal argument and one ends of following the other and shoots the other one. Obviously the one that shot is completely at fault. But wouldn't it be a good idea to ask why they got into the argument in the first place?

Saying who was at fault is obvious, and will only help that one case. Trying to figure out how it started and how it can be stopped in the future will help others.

You can't just say "oh, what they did is wrong and won't ever happen again." That won't help anyone and will just let more people get away with it in the future. If anything's going to get fixed then you have to analize the situation and see exactly where it went wrong and what to fix next time.

Though this is CE, so I don't expect much actual discussion. It's usually just people arguing about what they think someone else said for a few pages and then someone eventually just giving up. :p
