We got a chance to sit down with Peter Gelencser, the lead level designer on Cyberpunk 2077, and ask him his thoughts on the audience reaction. Gelencser explained,

"First and foremost, I really enjoy all the attention the subject is getting, because it's important. This has been an educated decision. The first-person point of view is there so you can see things happening up close, and so you can really interact with things in a visceral manner. with the game world." He continued. "It worked out well with our exploration of the genre."

He then went on to explain more of the philosophy of how you present perspective in games, saying,

"Third-person works well in games like the Witcher when you have a lot of motion and movement around you. But when all the things happen to you, from you, within you, first person point of view is the right decision to take, especially because of the augmentations."

Yeah if CDPR wasn't hinting that we're going to get gameplay, I'd be kind of disappointed in CP2077's showing. Another non gameplay trailer after all this time isn't good enough.

I think it's generating too much hype. They're allowing the gamers (us) the ability to imagine what combat, the world, the interaction and gameplay will look like. That isn't good. Who here is thinking that it will play like Just Cause? What about GTA? Deus Ex? We each go down our own road on what the game will be, and when actual gameplay is revealed... well, good luck keeping that hype.

This. The trailer recently shown and what I imagined in my head are two totally different things. A lot of of people complaining that Cyberpunk 2077 looks too bright and colorful. I think people expected a more Blade Runner like setting than what we got. Even the guy who is considered the father of cyberpunk doesn't think the game looks cyberpunk enough.

Doesn't matter what that guy thinks, really. The creator of the board game, which this game is directly based on, is working on the game. And the trailer matches the art for that.

And there are night shots in the trailer which everyone seems to be ignoring.
