It is very possible to go through the game without ever encountering her, though. I like picking her up as early as possible, which is really early. She has a subquest in her town that can be pretty tricky on disc 1. Similarly, getting Vincent when you first arrive to where he is can be challenging. A 15 year old girl got raped by her classmate and was completely shunned by the community. Even after the boy confessed in court, people took his side, he was invited to join the school's summer holiday kickoff celebration, etc. Even after he raped another girl and confessed, the whole community took his side. It was so bad her family had to move.
