Another thought: Galaxy 2 discourages exploration in a sloppy way

In Odyssey, 90% of the time, if you can make it to an out of the way point, youre rewarded, and almost never does the game put its foot down and block you from going somewhere it looks like you should be able to get to.

Galaxy 2 feels opposite. I see tough places I want to try to get to, but theres almost never a reward there AND they usually end up blocking you by invisible wall, which is frustrating.

Granted, most levels are meant to be linear, so this is just my bugaboo because I prefer a sandbox.

Maybe it just feels that way compared to Odyssey though, where everything except a couple captures feels smooth as butter.

I certainly cant think of any non-Mario 3D Platformer better than Galaxy 2 so far, but Id definitely put it behind Odyssey, 64, and Galaxy 1.

The rest of 100%ing the game decides the race between it and Sunshine. Sunshine was more fun to beat, but 100%ing it was a pain. Fuck the Blue Coin system.

I really feel like a lot of the lips and edges of platforms are really poorly done. The platforming around places where there are lots of small things to run into just doesnt feel good.

The powerup stuff is really good though.

After being a completionist through World 4, I decided to streamline to the end. Beat Bowser with 74 stars.

Im gonna go back and get them all before I check out World S, but so far I dont see why some people prefer this to Galaxy 1. It really is just an expansion pack with largely inferior levels, and most of the Yoshi stuff is inferior to straight Mario stuff.

See, I think until you've been in those situations, you will have a hard time understanding that. Sitting on your couch being able to half ignore the show when it's boring is much more different than having to sit through these shows live with the added frustration of having spent money on it. It's easy to say "They should be more respectful to the people watching" when you aren't the one there live, bored out of your mind and annoyed that you've had to sit through a crappy show you paid a bunch of money for.

Yeah, I've read some of Barthes' work. I've actually read a good bit of what little academic work there is on wrestling. It's just very rudimentary and, in a lot of cases, outdated.

Specifically as it relates to that essay, the only thing I find outdated about it with regard to WWE is that we are no longer treated to a perfect evocation of what the CULTURE perceives as Justice (with a capital J), but rather purely what Vince perceives as Justice.

Someone should do a case study on Vinces mind purely based on traits he gives his babyfaces versus traits he assigns to heels

I thought that too, but then where do you really call the line between first and second DQ? Is there a time limit to it? Because he did more offense after being DQ besides the claymore.

and in a kayfabe sense too how can you dq someone more than once that isnt in the match. Like basketball once someone is fouled you cant be fouled again on the same play

I wish wrestling was respected enough that any significant number of academics would study it the way they do television or music or what have you. It's such a unique medium that it would be really great to see the kind of theories folks would come up with. But, largely because of Vince, that will never happen.

Wrestling is so fascinating. It's the only form of entertainment where the audience are really treated as participants that are "supposed" to react a certain way. They're almost as much a part of the show as the actual performers. At the same time, they're paying customers, so they're not obligated to react in that certain way and it's really up to the company to connect with them in such a way that they do.

Its really the only thing I can think of where audience members intend to go to the event to be antagonistic to the performance not as protest, but as their way of enjoying the show.
