Pokmon The First Movie is dreadful. I loved it as a kid, but watching it again as an adult made me realise that it is awful.

I am glad that with this and the new Tomb Raider, we are entering into an age of mediocre video game films instead of terrible ones.

Regarding Uncharted 3, that game got worse scores than 2 and 4 and rightly so. If somebody thinks it's a 10 though, it's just an opinion. There have also been plenty of big budget, cinematic games that have reviewed poorly. Remember The Order?

They are about telling a widespread type of audience what this game is and what it's like - and that's always going to skew towards high-level discussion and the reviewer's experience instead of "under-the-hood" information like that.

That's not the problem, there's a reason we're having this topic about this game and not the dozens of other AAA games the enthusiast press reviews at a high level like you're describing. These reviews feel weirdly empty and disingenuous. It's like they all copied vlado's review style.

The only major high scoring review I can remember that felt truly empty was Gamespot's review of MGSV. The reason for this was that Konami only allowed pre-release reviews to be from a review event where press got 30 hours with the game, so it was not a full review of the full game. Review events are bad. They rarely happen nowadays though.

Viz bought the Homestuck IP, and is now in full control of it. The comic has moved to Homestuck.com, and they are putting out the books (on a regular schedule) with the first being out this month. They have updated the comic to be mobile compatible. WP Studios seems to be gone, with Viz taking over game development and presumably outsourcing.

I feel behind in Supernatural after the season with The Darkness (11). I've watched like five episodes of S12 and it's just so hard to get through now that I'm that far behind. (That said, S8-S11 might have been an unusually strong stretch for the show post-S5).

Only need to catch up on one season of Jane the Virgin, which I fucking adore. CXG fell off hard in S3 so I hope S4 (obviously the final season) can redeem it.

I actually thought CXG season 3 was the best one yet. Really happy we get it ending on its own terms, as 4 seasons was always the plan.

Apocalypsis Noctis is solid, Your Reality falls flat but is probably good in context.

I adore Drifting Souls. The reason Drifting Souls works and Your Reality doesn't for me is largely down to the vocals which are really powerful. It elevates what could have just been another JRPG ballad. Battle with Destiny is fine chiptune stuff.

Aggregate scores are valuable, they are a good way of understanding the general mood around a game though you do have to look at the distribution of scores as well. You can even see whole industry trends which is interesting. Ubisoft's scores in general are an interesting case study but we won't get into that here.

Of course as icon says you can't use that to tell how the discussion of a single aspect is going. And even if we do look at scores, 5 is the worst reviewed numbered Far Cry game.

There is a deep irony in being called a commie by someone who not only once swore to be a communist, but also defended North Korea. But no, I'm just plain old left, progressive/democratic socialism for me. :)

To be serious though the democrats are a centre-right party that are mostly conservative. They aren't exactly pushing for massive social change, they can't even agree on welfare and healthcare, and even their most extreme element aren't going to so much as think about public ownership.

They've been against him for quite a while. They've always opposed PBS and his ideas of tolerance and being inclusive since that extends to all the boogeymen (religions they don't like, gays, space aliens, etc.) conservatives rail against as part of their ideology.

Here's the thing: Conservatism is supposed to be about preserving established institutions, organic society and a bit of property rights. Exclusion and intolerance, especially of things commonly accepted in society do not fit with that. These "conservatives" are not conservative in the slightest. They are far-right reactionaries and should be called what they are. And I say that as one of the most left-leaning on the board.

As far as I can tell, the American right (who are by no means conservative - they are radicals) will oppose absolutely anything that the democrats are for. The democrats are already fairly right wing and conservative on their own account, and so the American right has to oppose basic decency in order to be against them.

The dates for this are potentially noteworthy. June 11-12 would mean that the first day would go before Nintendo's usual conference. I wonder if they'll go on Monday (June 11) this time to fill the void left by Microsoft and EA. Last year it was just Ubisoft and Sony with a huge void in between and it was weird. I am no great fan of Horizon but it's not comparable to Andromeda, even if we just boil it down to story. For all of Horizon's narrative faults it at least has a clear cohesive story with a pretty reasonable narrative arc. Mass Effect Andromeda does not have that.
