| SMAP- 05/24/18 4:14:06 PM #6 | A combination of knowing the right people, and having way, way too much time on my hands mostly lol. Basically early in my life I had a stepbrother who would make all kinds of mixes of punk and metal music that really got me interested in those genres, before that I was mainly just listening to the radio and my parents records (which mostly consisted of Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Carpenters and Simon & Garfunkel). In addition I had two neighbors who gave away large crates of vinyl, cassettes and CDs to my family, and my curiosity kept growing and growing into my teenage years, where I started ordering music by mail, and then after discovering file sharing sites like Soulseek it just kinda imploded from there. Whether its stuff Ive found through blogs, stuff I hear from people Ive played with, stuff Ive seen at basement shows...websites like RYM and Discogs are really great search tools too. The past 5 or so years Ive started to slow down and have been doing a lot more relistening and reevaluating what I actually really like.
