The country still has a lot of people I'm not disputing the potential truth of the reporting. I'm posting the source of the article because TC didn't, and a lot of people were taking it at face value without knowing where any of that information was coming from. For all any of us knew TC could've been writing fiction and none of us would have known any difference. Just as a general note on that article, the original Japanese source doesn't mention anything about extinction or the reaction to it. It was just a report on the numbers like they always do for Children's Day.
