But sadly our society doesn't see it that was. Duckbear's got a story linked just recently of two monsters that slit a dog's throat because "they needed to kill something" and they got off with no jail time at all.

I agree that, based on the sequence of events as we know them, the cop did not act appropriately. He might yet be able to put together a defense, though, depending on the details of his experience leading up to the incident.

The cop was responding to a call where he was told that there was petrol sprayed throughout the house and the guy was thinking of lighting it and killing the hostages inside. He issued an order for the suspect to raise his hands then the suspect dropped them to his side. Given that he was given bad information and the suspect ignored his order, it wasn't entirely unreasonable for him to shoot. Your idea of a life prison sentence despite an absence of malice and in response to what was purported a legitimate threat is completely unreasonable, reactionary, and just silly. The people responsible for the death are the ones involved in putting in the fake call. Even the 911 operator, who passed it along as a real tip, doesn't deserve legal action.

No, the cop's job isn't to just roll up and shoot at people.
The cops should assess a situation first, precisely BECAUSE the intel they've been given may be incorrect, never mind simple human errors like getting one number wrong in the building number of the address.

Cops always say the unarmed innocent man they shot "didn't follow instructions" or "reached for his belt" or some shit. It's been shown to be bs numerous times when camera footage of an incident actually is released to the public and we should all take such claims by the police with a grain of salt.

Even if someone was reaching for their waistband, that doesn't mean the cops should immediately open fire. Take cover first. Keep the weapon at the ready, but don't just immediately shoot.
Cops aren't the fucking judge, jury, and executioner, and it's amazing you'll whine and moan about a calm, deliberate process that takes over 10 years of appeals and court decisions resulting in the execution of a convicted criminal, but you fall all over yourself in a big rush to defend cops gunning down unarmed suspects.

I always wondered how pissed off and demoralized the men in Russia get, knowing that so many of the women in their country do anything they possibly can to escape and marry dudes from a cornucopia of other countries.

I'm fine w/ turning NK into another "mutually assured destruction" sort of peace situation. Not as good as no nuclear threat at all, but better than remaining hostile.

So long as re-registration is easy enough to not be any sort of a barrier to people looking to get back into voting, I'm actually not opposed to the idea of cutting down on the amount of paper that gets sent out. If it's just going to be ignored anyway, might as well not waste the effort and resources. I'm not sure doing it automatically is the best way to go, though. Giving inactive voters an opt-out option would probably be better, even if it'd result in a lower deactivation rate than doing it automatically.

I loved Super Mario RPG, it was one of the first RPGs I ever played (Dragon Warrior was 1st, but it's...not nearly the same as the classic party and turn-based format) and got me into the genre.
When I saw commercials for Paper Mario, I thought it was a sick joke.

And that's probably the biggest factor going in it's favor...looks good by default due to no competition.

Anyway...Nintendo's got the Xenoblade 2 expansion, Octopath Traveler, the Smash remaster (yes, that's what it is, get over it), and...presumably still Bayonetta 3 (no update? why?).
The other two have nothing I really am looking forward to except maybe Spider-Man.

The funny memes at the game's expense are the only things I like about Mario Party.
If the meme didn't exist, I'd just 100% hate the game.

As I said previously, I only watched a few of his videos, mostly the "WTF is...?" series, but they were pretty good and he always seemed to handle issues rationally and made good arguments.
He also seemed to be a pretty stalwart voice for consumers against crappy industry practices.
It's awful he passed away so young. RIP.

Seemed pretty lame overall, and I was actually kind of annoyed that they not only didn't fix mechanical/balance issues but outright bragged about it with Pichu ("he still damages himself", ie, "he still sucks!").

It's nice they finally made Shulk's monado arts less of a chore to select, at least.

I also find it "amusing" that MS was the target of lawsuits alleging a monopoly in the '90's, yet modern day Apple is more rich/powerful than MS was back then, and unlike MS, apple actually keeps everything under their own roof (while as other companies produce PCs and other products that use Windows OS)....yet they aren't being subjected to the same scrutiny as MS was back then.

It's fucking pathetic that our own court doesn't understand just how serious these kind of accusations are. Hell, even if you're proven innocent, it only takes one little accusation for people to potentially see you in a different light.

EDIT: Actually, to add to this post....she should be put on the sex offender registry, too.
That shit will stick to the convicted person for decades even after the prison sentence.
