Vividred Operation has some similar elements, though the main duo are closer to rivals in that. The first four or so episodes of that show were really awesome. Nanoha has a protagonist who's pretty similar in a lot of ways, and is a really great show (at least for the first two seasons and the movies).

Bit over halfway through Katana Maidens now @Robazoid so I figured I'd talk a bit about it.

I feel like most of the things about this series are kinda bad, or derivative. None of the characters or story elements are particularly original. The story itself is okay, but nothing I haven't seen before. The animation is a bit reliant on CG which hurts it sometimes, but actually uses it decently well, so it's not as bad as it could've been at least. The characters are almost good. They're fairly archetypal in general, but usually have a couple neat traits that make them more interesting. Kanami feels like a typical positive protagonist a lot of the time, but her decision to side with Hiyori in the first episode and her awareness in fights are really cool. I do wish they'd take that a little further - the first episode showed her determination to side with Hiyori, even if she was in the wrong, so it was disappointing to see her just fighting with the good guys the whole time. Sayaka's VA is awesome and she's probably my favorite of the protagonists and I'd like to see more of her. Mai occasionally seems to have potential, but she's just boring so far. Ellen probably the worst of the main crew, other than when she occasionally gets serious. Kaoru's pretty cool sometimes - I like that she has this kinda lazy apathetic feel to her, but she's actually a super hard worker who's passionate about what she does. She makes the most boob jokes though which is super lame (Nene has a really good design but the boob jokes with her are terrible).

The villains were probably a little better than the good guys in general, though their motivations (other than the main villain) felt a little bit weak. Yukina's the worst of the bunch. I really wish she'd been disposed of in the first arc, because every scene with her is annoying. I have no idea why everyone else tolerates her existence, since she's both incompetent and irritating. Yume was my favorite of them. She had an interesting story, solid motivations, and good VA. I hope she stays dead and doesn't come back, since her death scene was great.

The worst thing about the show is the character designs. I hate them. No one stands out at all. Some of the villains are okay, but eh. Their hair and faces look dumb, the school uniforms are shit, and they wear the same clothes in every scene in the series. Even when they're on the run and the authorities are chasing them down, they never bother changing out of their outfits. It's totally stupid and lazy, especially since the uniform designs are so bad (Kaoru's is okay, but that's about it). If the character designs were actually good I think most of my complaints about the show would disappear.

What actually does save the series is the feel of it. Everything feels pretty fun and good and there's a really nice flow to everything. I still wish that the basics were better, but it's definitely not a chore to watch.

Oh hey, criticizing Inuyashiki entirely for episode 1. Nice. There's plenty more than that to it, and the series feels nothing like Gantz in general (though who knows what they did with the Gantz anime - it was a terrible adaptation that everyone hated, so maybe they went in some crazy direction). There are a bunch of good people in the show too. Eh, whatever.

Comic Girls beated. Pretty cool stuff in general! Though I do wish it had been more consistent. The first four episodes or so were pretty much pure greatness. Kaos is amazing, the animation was top tier, and Ruki's episode was one of the best episodes I've seen in a slice of life show. Nyaos's introduction was the best, and she continued to be awesome throughout the rest of the show too, though she didn't get much of a spotlight. The rest of the show was still good, but it didn't reach the same heights as often, and the animation wasn't quite as mindblowing for the most part. Koyume didn't feel like a particularly interesting character most of the time, so episodes that focused on her weren't really highlights. Still, very good stuff. Always nice when an SoL show is a hit.

"Just sort of making a modest profit" would still be an absolute bomb by Star Wars standards. You can't judge Star Wars by normal movie standards, not even blockbuster standards. Especially considering the literal billions of dollars Disney paid just for the rights to the franchise. They are absolutely expecting nine figure profits off every movie in order to justify their initial investment.

With the merchandising they've already made enough to justify their initial investment.

I think not liking 9S too much is part of why Automata didn't end up being one of my favorite games. I always wished Route C was all A2 with no 9S parts.

Pascal was my favorite side character. Everything about her was pretty great.

Worldwide numbers are much less relevant than domestic numbers, and Solo will still make a decent chunk of money from the home market and merchandising. I think it's been said that Disney will end up losing $50 million on the movie when it's all said and done? So yeah, losing that $100 million of reshoots would've been enough to make the movie profitable.

Most people find the later seasons of Symphogear to be quite a bit better than the first. They're definitely more refined.

I very much enjoy having a controller I don't have to charge.

It does. Works pretty well on MK8, for example. You can get an off-brand one like Mayflash in the meantime before the Nintendo one is available again.

I think A2's Berserker Mode is basically mandatory at some points. Makes some bosses much less tedious. And with all the healing you have in this game, the HP drain is basically a non-factor... Definitely way more useful than Orgia Mode.

Plus it's just super fun to use <3

I used all my Caster Gems skilling up Sanzang, despite that event having Caster Gems in the shop, so gem scarcity definitely isn't an illusion - I still don't have enough for her final skill. I'll end up using a bunch of Berserker Gems on Ibaraki and Raikou too, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ran out of those...and then the guaranteed gacha is coming up soon, where there's a solid chance I'll get another Berserker or Caster.

2BP has better rates for most items, including gems and the CE. I've done all my runs on 2BP for Ushi Gozen since it's super easy to clear in one turn.
