Hell, I don't even totally rule out that somehow the Democrats critically fail and lose seats although that would be historically awful and I'd likely be at a loss for words in that event. But what I personally think is that they take back the House (and like break even or go +1 on the Senate if we're playing predictions I guess.) I know you disagree but like... do you want me to profess an opinion I don't believe or something? I'm not saying they absolutely will take it back, just I believe they will. We disagree. I know. I tried to argue the data with you before and I thought we eventually ended up at agreeing to disagree.

As of this moment, I predict House +15 Dems. Senate -1.

I think +20 to 25 on the House but -2 to 3 in the Senate. I wouldnt be totally shocked by your prediction though either.

So, the Democrats, who spent billions of dollars on campaigning and employed Americans (presumably), were done in by Russians making Facebook ads. Apparently Russia was better at reading the mood of Americans than Democrats were. Sad!

I mean the same thing is true about the republicans. These ads were designed to rile up anger amongst the fringe groups of both camps and specifically meant to support Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, who Russia believed would be more beneficial to their agenda.

Don't forget Trump steamrolled the republican primary contenders too.

So there have been a lot of articles lately about Democrats becoming more liberal under Trump and well....I hadnt planned on voting this way til I showed up at the polls but I ended up voting for the more liberal candidate in all of the primaries just now.

It just....feels like time to move things forward instead of fighting so hard for a flawed but comfortable status quo.

This is the first year I'll be voting straight democrat at the polls. I almost always have some republicans or libertarians or independents at the local level. But not this year.

I mean, it's probably a good idea. I know that all over reddit on basically every sub that is vaguely politics with the except of like r/the_donald, whenever someone posts something about Mueller maybe getting fired, there are four people that post a link to the page organizing protests. They already have the protests all planned out and ready to go. I think these would mostly be peaceful, but it only takes a few idiots for them not to be and it is something the police are probably best prepared for.

If Mueller is fired, there will absolutely be protests. I checked the link and there are like 15 different ones planned within driving distance to me. I would imagine Pittsburgh is similar!

One strange argument in these immigration debates is always "look how strict Mexico is or how strict Canada is or how strict China is or how strict Japan is" etc.

And it's like...yeah. That's why the US has, for the better part of a century now, been better than all of them. We take their best and their brightest or their hardest working or their most ambitious. We take them from you and we make them ours. That has been an undeniable strength of America for years. And suddenly their is this segment of the Republican Party that wants to see that all go away out of either bigotry or ignorance of how the economy works.

Trolling the_donald like I do, there tend to be two large swaths of opinions there regarding immigration. Those that are outspoken about how all immigration is bad and "keep America for Americans, etc" and those that are more sneaky about the way they talk but pretty much want the same sort of thing.

Like what a lot of Trump supporters do (which again, I separate out from conservatives because they really are their own thing), is go "oh, of course I'm for legal immigration but illegal immigration is bad" and then they hammer how bad illegal immigration is over and over.

But then when you look at their policy on legal immigration, or hear them talk about how they want to improve the immigration system, it is by greatly cutting the number of legal immigrants allowed in the country, both in terms of total number and targeting specific "undesirable" population groups.

So they demonize illegal immigration while wanting to undermine legal immigration and thereby drastically shrinking the total number of new immigrants to the country, which is bad for a whole host of reasons.
