Translation:

Russian air defense systems in Tartus and Khmeimim were proving detection and control (tracking) of all launches, both from sea and air.

Participation of French aircraft was not detected.

US used the following aircraft: F-15; F-16. UK used Tornado's. The strikes came from the Mediterranean Sea area.

US Navy destroyers launched strikes from the Red Sea.

US B-1B bombers launched their strikes while over Al Tanf area.

As of now, no reported casualties.

All in all, 103 cruise missiles were launched, among them Tomahawks.

B-1B bombers used GBU-38 guided bombs.

F-15 & 16 aircraft used air-to-surface missiles.

UK's Tornado's launched 8 SCALP cruise missiles.

SAA air defenses successfully repelled the attacks.

71 cruise missiles were intercepted.

S-125; S-200, OSA, Kvadrat (Square), Buk, Pantsir were used by SAA to repel the attack.

Russia now considers supplying S-300 to Syria and other countries.

Strikes were also launched on SAA airbases.

Duvali airbase (sorry for spelling) - 4 missiles - all shot down. No type of missiles given.

Dumeir airbase (sorry, again) - 12 missiles - all shot down. No type of missiles given.

Blay airbase (spelling) - 18 missiles - all shot down. No type of missiles given.

Shairat airbase - 12 missiles - all shot down. No type of missiles given.

All above airbases sustained no damage.

Unused Mezzeh airbase - 9 missiles - 5 shot down.

Homs airbase - 16 missiles - 13 shot down. No serious damage.

Barzah and Djaramani - 30 missiles - 7 shot down. Targets partially destroyed. Facilities were not being used.

RuMoD air defense forces were put on full combat alert. RuMoD aircraft patrolling Syrian airspace.

Not a single missile entered the Russian air defense systems' range. Those systems were not used in repelling the strike.

The strike is a response to SAA's recent successes.

The strike was launched on the same day the OPCW mission was supposed to start working in Douma.

Syria has no facilities that are capable of producing chemical weapons which was registered competent authorities.

The strike clearly shows US is not interested in finding the truth and is aiming to disrupt Syria and the entire region.

The situation in Damascus is calm

Russian report on the attack that is on YouTube.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/14/us/satellite-images-syrian-airstrikes/index.html

The Syrians say some targeted sites didn't receive any damage. Satellite images given to CNN appear to show the contrary -- extensive damage.

I don't know why Russia is so intent on lying about things so easily disproven.

I mean I do, but still.

What concerns me is that supposedly we fired 100 missiles and around 30 of them were shot down. That seems like a lot for Syria to be able to shoot down. (No idea if numbers are accurate. Just saw that somewhere)

Russia says that 71/103 were intercepted

The Pentagon says every target was successfully hit.

Itll be interesting to get real numbers

(Hopefully the "some" in my comment is limited to the few I have seen say it). Anecdotal you would say. Maybe.

Yeah, I've never heard anything like that. The most common complaint is something along the lines of:

The law has been criticized by many sex workers and advocates because it conflates voluntary sex work with victims trafficked into the industry. Critics also argue that the legislation will only push both sex trafficking and voluntary sex work further underground, which would put both groups in even more danger.

They have to defend WV, IN, MT, MO, ND, FL, and aren't sure things in states like OH, MI, and maybe WI/MN (probably not MN but its a weird special election so who knows). On the flip side, the Dems have good shots at NV, with possible AZ/TN weirdness depending on how things are looking at the time.

I don't know if I should be happy or upset that Donald Trump is basically destroying the Republican party. It has been weak and inefficient for years due to infighting. However, Paul Ryan is a mighty blow.

Depends on your definition of weak and inefficient. The GOP stonewalled Obama for 6 years and made that presidency far less disastrous than he hoped to be.

They can't ever agree on anything besides to stop democrats.

There has absolutely been a leadership vacuum at the top even since Bush spiraled into unpopularity, and the only thing that seems to unite all the fractioning pieces of the GOP is "well who cares the democrats are worse".

You can almost pinpoint exactly to the Tea Party crap for the fracturing of the Republican party.

That certainly didn't help. They are a fringe of the Republican Party, but they pushed out a lot of moderates in the name of purity, and spend a lot of their time rallying for causes that are so far out of line with the typical American that they have no hope of ever getting passed. They're basically just there to puff out their chest and brag about how conservative they are without ever attempting to get anything substantive done. They've also contributed to claiming the careers of many well respected Republicans, including Boehner and now Ryan.

I mean, establishment Republicans are also at fault here because when the Tea Party emerged they sort of half supported them and propped them up to show how mad the "average" American was with Obama. They weren't prepared for them to turn on them and start gobbling up the seat of better politicians.

In comparison, in what might also be a wave election (in the house, not the senate, I don't care what the crazy ranting republican guy says - the democrats aren't winning the senate), conservative democrats aren't getting pushed out the same way liberal republicans were when this happened last time:

https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/illinois-house-district-3-primary-election

I don't quite know what this means or if the trend can continue, but it looks like the democrats are okay with keeping a bigger tent while the republicans seem hellbent on shrinking theirs.

I do not absolve cops in every situation. I absolve cops when there is reasonable justification for it.

The only major reported shooting I have seen in the past years that was not overtly justifiable was the Castile one. Though I am sure more exist.

Walter Scott was far and away the worst, but Castile was definitely egregious as well, I'd agree with that.

Magna Carta 2 is probably stranger than either of those two, tbqh!

It definitely had its charms, but I'm surprised its ahead of so many of these other RPGs.

Actually that game surprised me at how good it was. I'll explain more when I get to it (hint: soon) but really the best surprise is buying a game on a whim and then realizing it's really, really good.

Actually, after looking back, I'm confusing Magna Carta 2 with Enchanted Arms for some reason. Magna Carta 2 was actually pretty good, ignoring some weird things about the story like that one girl who is almost naked and looks like a porn star but keeps going "hey guys I'm 12 years old" every ten minutes. Battle system was fun, too. Story was good even if it was cliched at times.

So I rescind my comment. FFXIII-2 is much weirder.

Professional Idiot Ben Shapiro argues how the left FORCES good conservatives to team up with Nazis just to survive

I don't agree with this specific instance, but I do think I sort of agree with the overall point that some of the hyperbolic language coming out of certain segments of the left that the right intentionally amplified made it hard for us to warn people about how bad Trump was. Bill Maher (who is another guy I throughly dislike) had a sort of come to Jesus moment about this after Trump's victory.

Specifically, when there were loud voices on the left saying something along the lines of "Mitt Romney is a threat to democracy, is racist, is sexist, is this and this and this" when he really just is a fairly normal, run of the mill conservative - that's something that wound up diluting our argument against Trump. "Well yeah you said all of this about the last guy too *shrug*"

I frequent r/politics a lot, and there are a lot of people on there that will say something along the lines of "Kasich is just as bad of Trump because of his view on abortion or because of taxes or because of whatever". Or "Rubio is just as bad because he voted for this bill Trump supported so he's just like Trump". They aren't, but by saying he is we are diluting our arguments against him.

I'm sure I'm not articulating this well, but if we use the same language to denounce Trump that we do to denounce Kasich, we're going to lose moderates that aren't really paying attention and think we're just being hyperbolic. "They're all bad so f them all", well a lot of people might like tax cuts and be pro life, but aren't nearly as bad for our democracy as what Trump is doing. I think it is important to understand there are levels here, and be mindful of that.

If any of that makes sense I'm typing this from my phone.

But in this specific scenario I disagree with Shaprio because uh what this dude said goes far beyond "normal conservative thought". But I at least do think I understand his general point.

I feel like early weapons breaking was awesome. You e been dead for a while and the world decayed. Its survival. But after like 10-20 hours its just too easy to get good weapons so I found myself just sorta juggling good weapons and it was no longer a strong point for the game.

Even when I had good weapons, certain fights still dominated my weapons. Maybe the weapons I had weren't as good as I thought, but one tough fight would wreck my inventory.

You definitely did not have good weapons then.

I actually had the opposite problem, where my inventory was overstocked with over powerful weapons and like neon I thought things got really easy pretty early. The difficulty curve is weird, where I actually had a much easier time after the first quarter of the game or so. It gets pretty easy to game the system and have way too many health items, crazy good weapons, etc.

I thought it was a ton of fun still, but I agree that some of the new elements were not integrated as well as they could be.

It's also a bit more conservative than every single district around it. This is Lipinski's district who is voted against Obamacare, is anti-abortion, voted for DOMA, against the DREAM act, etc.

Just because the current talking point I see exploding on Twitter is whatabout Obama! and its intellecially dishonest.

While it is not the same, I disagree it is "intellecially" dishonest to point out that data has been used without the knowledge of users from both this and Obama's campaign.

You have a literal person that worked at the lead of it stating how they did something similar and how that Facebook would not have allowed them to do so, but turned a blind eye because "they were on the same side".

I do not think linking some person's opinion piece can change those facts.

I meet your opinion piece with this one.

https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/facebook-data-scandal-trump-election-obama-2012/

The fact is that there is a common denominator here. It is not Trump and Obama. It is Facebook.

It is intellectually dishonest because what people are mad about isnt the fact CA used big data so to frame it that way is silly.

Hey that guy asked to borrow your rake and you gave it to him so you cant be mad that I broke into your shed and stole it

Also they arent even trying to excuse this behavior. Theyre just hoping to muddy the waters so people dont care.

Also, a lot of votes left l, but based on turnout, tough to envision the Republican governor of Illinois keeping his job. Especially in this environment

Oh, Rauner's days were always numbered. He's signed too many liberal-leaning bills into law to hold onto the GOP base, and being a Republican in a Democratic wave year (especially in Illinois) was never going to end well for him.

Rauner vs. Pritzker is the one matchup I'd actually have to think about, specifically because Rauner has been so liberal leaning on social issues and has not been super hardline on fiscal issues either. I voted for Biss today but also liked Kennedy just fine. Pritzker I am not a huge fan of, particularly since he basically bought this election (he's been running ads non stop here on cable and Hulu for like four months already now) and he has connections to Blagovich who is still very much a bad name here in Illinois. When I got to the polling place I almost asked for a republican ballot just because I absolute hate Ives and did not have much of a preference between Biss and Kennedy and knew they were unlikely to win anyway.

...well, I mean, I would think about it in a normal year. Considering how unhappy I am with how Merrick Garland was handled and how mealy mouthed republicans as a whole have been towards Trump, I am voting straight democrat this November regardless. I've actually never done that before strangely enough.

Yeah, I just beat that game over the weekend, I enjoyed it a lot and pretty much agree with all your points. Very solid game. I was pretty underwhelmed with the last few playable characters it gave us though. Luigi too good.

Yoshi was actually my fourth favorite character! His special abilities are awesome. He has one that guarantees the special effect for the entire team for one turn and it only has a one turn recharge. That plus Marios damage boost in the same turn is absurdly powerful.

Peach + Rabbid Peach was OP for me. Tons of healing let me be a bit more risky at times and they both have huge high damage attacks. There were only two missions I didnt gold my first time.

Definitely enjoyed the game though. I even went back and played through all the co-op stuff because I just wanted a bit more. It was a tad on the easy side overall and yeah I agree it was missing a bit of the intensity at times.

Great game though.

In one apparent slip into Duterte-ian language, Trump said he'd pursue the death penalty for drug "abusers." It seemed clear in context that he was referring imprecisely to drug dealers.

Lets hope thats an accurate read <_<

Can vouch.

Am not a strategy game guy. Still loved Steamworld Heist. Something about its basic formula is absurdly addicting and aiming your shots to try and hit as many people as possible was just great.

Then again Trump was a Democrat most of his life so maybe this is politically motivated after all!

They also lost to Army, Vermont twice by at least 15, and lost to Maryland by 20.

They weren't underseeded. They shouldn't have been anywhere close to the tournament at all if it wasn't for their last minute comeback against Vermont in their conference tournament. This really is unparalleled in sports.

I actually really liked Thimbleweed Park! ...but I'm a big fan of the whole genre so I understand why you'd quit on it if you weren't.

Totally agree with Mutant Mudds though. Played it on the Vita and couldn't finish it either.

Interesting discussion on 538 today about whether Trump helps/hurts campaigning for you, and a good emphasis on how the media is still misinterpreting what polls mean.

clare.malone: Fox & Friends is saying that Trump saves Republicans, to be clear.

They were saying this morning that Trumps trip to Pennsylvania actually saved Saccone from a more embarrassing loss.

natesilver: THIS TALKING POINT IS SO DUMB.

micah: Wait a sec!

natesilver: ITS SO FUCKING DUMB.

AND IT SHOWS THAT PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS ABOUT INTERPRETING POLLS.

micah: You have caps lock on, I think.

natesilver: Ive seen multiple people making claims that Lamb was up 6 points in the polls until Trump came in. This is backwards in like two ways.

First, Lamb was leading by 6 points in only one poll, from Monmouth. Not the polls.

He was up by 2 points in the polling average, and the final result is going to come very, very close to that.

If you think the polls were off in this race, youre a fucking idiot, full stop.

The same would have been true if Saccone had won by 1 point or something also.

micah: Is rant over?

natesilver: Second, the Monmouth poll was actually conducted AFTER TRUMP VISITED, or at least partially after it.

The polls BEFORE Trump visited showed a TIE, on average.

Then the Monmouth poll came out AFTERWARD.

micah: Is rant over?

natesilver: If anything, the Monmouth poll suggested that Trump made matters worse for Saccone, although it did overshoot the mark a bit.

Im sorry to rant about this, Im just really, really tired of people substituting saying the polls when they really mean idiotic media narratives based on cherry-picked misinterpretations of the polls.

Even on CNN last night, there was this notion that Lamb was a big favorite based on the polls. Thats absolutely false. He was a modest favorite, at best. It shows that people have learned nothing since 2016.

micah: Is rant over?

natesilver: Its going to continue for the next three years, Micah.

BUZZFEED - How A Player In The Trump-Russia Scandal Led A Double Life As An American Spy

In the sprawling Trump-Russia investigation, one name constantly pops up: Felix Sater. In story after story, Sater is described as Donald Trumps former business partner, a convicted stock swindler who was born in the Soviet Union, worked in Russia, tried to win Trump a deal in Moscow, and even helped broker a Ukrainian peace plan that Vladimir Putin would have loved.

Basically, hes portrayed as something just short of a Russian spy.

Effectively, he has been a spy but for the United States. For the first time, BuzzFeed News has verified the surprising sweep of Saters undercover work and many of his specific exploits. He worked as an asset for the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency (or DIA) and tracked Osama bin Laden. Then he worked for more than a decade for the FBI, providing intel on everything from the mob to North Koreas drive for nuclear weapons. He still operates as a source for the bureau, according to two current FBI agents.

He did some of this work to fend off prison time after he admitted guilt in a stock scam but he had started helping the US government before then, and he continued to report back to the FBI after the agreement ended. Today, as he is being questioned about Trump's business deals and ties to Russia, he has built relationships with at least six members of special counsel Robert Muellers team, some going back more than 10 years.

https://www.buzzfeed.com/anthonycormier/felix-sater-trump-russia-undercover-us-spy?utm_term=.kgVzBMo5w#.upLkAl60O

I've not read much of this yet because it's huge, but this seems like Felix Sater has key information and is more complicated a figure than just Donald's Russian friend and neighbor.

I haven't read the article yet, but, uh...

Did Buzzfeed just out this dude as a spy?

EDIT: Just read the article and the answer is "no". Hooray for reading!

There are a lot of people in WV/Pennsylvania/Ohio/etc that are for most things the democrats are for economically, but refuse to vote for them nationally due to social issues (abortion and gun rights chief among them). For some reason they almost always identify as democrats because they'll vote democratic for local elections in spite of the fact they'd almost never vote for a democrat nationally.

Its partly the reason that WV has had more years of democratic representation in the senate since 1940 than any other state even though its the reddest of red states now for presidential elections.
