Like if we pray and we have sincere positive intention, that he "makes things work out" for us?

Yes. However the promise is for believers in Christ, not for just anyone.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Philippians 4:6-7 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The "called according to his purpose" and "in Christ Jesus" parts are important. God never promises to listen to the prayers of unbelievers.

It's also important that God WILL answer believers' prayers for good, but that good is according to His determination, according to what He wants to produce in our lives. In other words, the answer isn't always going to be "Yes" when you want it to be "Yes." Even the Apostle Paul experienced this.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10
7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
9 But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs power may rest on me.
10 That is why, for Christs sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Any other questions? Feel free to ask.

Pretty much just saying you are one

A lot of people believe that, but mere lip service to Christianity never saves anyone.

Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

John 6:28-29 - 'Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.' [emphasis mine]

We are saved when we recognize our sinfulness, (Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) and repent and turn to God through the way He has provided, which is Christ (Romans 3:24 - and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.)

Once we are saved we live for Christ and experience the fruits of the Holy Spirit which include joy, but I'm always a little leery of the kind of Christian testimony which says "I wasn't happy then I found religion then I became happy," treating conversion as an add-on experience without talking about sin, repentance, faith in Jesus Christ. Her comments don't mention any of those things, hence my skepticism.

James 5:1-6

5 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.
2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.
4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[a]
6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

This is preaching against exploitation, not about being rich or having wealth. It's about hoarding wealth when people are starving and about not paying your workers the wages agreed upon (the amount of payment is between the worker and employer but whatever you agreed upon must be given).

No? This was a command given to the Israelites, it is not applicable to Christians. Furthermore the command was to not charge interest to their fellow Israelites. Charging gentiles was a-okay.

The Bible has nothing against private ownership of property, goods or businesses. The injunction is to work hard to provide for your own needs and those of your family, to pay your taxes fairly and to provide for the needs of the others as you have excess (Ephesians 4:28, Galatians 6:10, Romans 13:8-10, etc).

I don't believe any person, no matter how virtuous, is perfect by that definition. I don't think its attainable.

That was the whole point, that righteousness cannot be attained by keeping the law because our sinful nature makes it impossible for us to keep the law.

Romans 3:20 - Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

And that's why God provided the righteousness that comes through Christ, who lived the perfect life on our behalf and died for our sins.

Romans 3:21-24 - But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

And this article is definitely hiding something about the full process the family went through. If they've been through years of application and appeals and the court determined they weren't really refugees then I'll give the court the benefit of the doubt here.
