One of the last things I did today was finish filling out the sphere grid for Auron and Lulu and it was incredibly boring even with AP tricks. Moving 3 spaces and spamming x to light up the spheres is really really dull.

At the end I missed a sphere somehow and couldn't figure out who or what. I bribed a Maelspike for an Attribute sphere and then looked which character could use it; turned out I missed an HP sphere with Kimahri.

Oh man what a platinum. If I had known what a grind it would be I might not have gone for it.

First off, I love this game. I beat it a few times over the years but never had access to the international edition so that was a fun change. Expert sphere grid let me do some silly things like send 5 characters down Rikku's path. I had a great time in the main game and the early end game (except the most tedious minigame, guess which one).

I had never bothered to do the monster arena stuff before and I had no idea what a grind it is to get fortune spheres and fill out the sphere grid. Talking about 40 hours of just non-stop grinding for items to customize equipment and so on, just to be able to beat the dark aeons. Got boring pretty quickly. On the positive side, got lots of podcast listening in.

When it finally came time for Penance I had enough of the game, so I threw all my gil at Yojimbo and uninstalled.

It's been around 3 months since I earned a platinum trophy. This one was super easy to get. Bioshock just needs a single playthrough and almost all the trophies are achieved just by playing the game as normal. I think I had beat it a couple times years ago so the only trophy I really had to try to get was the audio diaries. I missed maybe 3-4 during the game.

Bioshock itself has aged about as well as you think it would. The PS4 version is very clear and crisp but there is only so far you can go. The game was made by a pretty small team (by today's standards) and it shows. Lots of repeated models, textures, and sounds. The atmosphere is still preserved pretty well through the sound design and art direction, and it helps that you don't often get to see anybody standing still in front of you because that would blow it.

Gameplay is still solid and fun but it wears off quickly. About halfway through I was really only playing to finish it, and luckily the game is short. I know the upgrade mechanics were novel at the time, but now it just feels rudimentary. The higher level plasmids are simply just damage upgrades, and only one or two of the weapon upgrades change how you play.

Still one of my favorite games of last generation, but it was a little sad to see how it has been eclipsed by more recent releases.

edit: that CPU is super old. You should be able to get something light years better for $100 even (current gen i3-8100, for example)

Beat Red Dead Redemption. Game is really good but the gameplay and open world has to carry it a lot because once you go to Mexico the story really loses its way. The third act is super slow and the characters cannot compare to the previous ones. I was hoping when it became Marston Rancher that the game would go full ranch sim but I was disappointed.

The ending was neat. Did not think I would end up playing as the son in the end. Kind of sucks that you cannot play the post game as John. Jack is kind of annoying. Then again, I think I probably saw all I want to see in the game anyway.

I will check out the Undead Nightmare at some point. I think I heard that was decent?

RDR is really good. I'm maybe 5 hours in so far and I have been totally sucked into the world. It is sparse enough not to feel overwhelming but there is still always something to do nearby. The missions have been fun and the story presented pretty well even if most of the characters in the story are goofy.

I am moving through it at a pretty steady pace so I do not think I will get tired by the end like what happens with many open world games.

I actually got JJ at random on the PS3 version. I never got him to spawn on PS4 so I just moved my PS3 character over and that trophy popped when I completed a challenge.

Update: Got the PS4 platinum just now. Turns out the sabre and phaselock trophies will pop after just one use if you already got them on the other system.

Not sure what my next platinum will be. I'm close on a couple games but do not have a strong desire to finish them. It might end up being the next game that hooks me.

I think I might start Red Dead Redemption because that game has been on my backlog for years.

It has a lot of issues with pacing and navigation. If you are playing it with 4 people then you probably are not paying that much attention to memorizing area layouts and the levels are often very vertical which does not translate on a 2D map. So we end up spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to get around. There also is a ton of platforming which as anyone knows is ass in first person.

The level design is also bad in that there is a ton of boring and unnecessary backtracking. The level environments are bland and, as I said earlier, are super confusing if you have not memorized the layouts.

I will admit that the game seems to be getting better as it goes along. We are probably 2/3 of the way through and the last few sessions have been more straightforward and entertaining. It might just be that I've lowered my expectations. The first 10 hours or so were really bad.

First platinum is almost 4 months, but I spent a lot of that time playing Borderlands 2. It's a really great game still in 2018.

Nick, Wigs, MSG, and I played through the whole game to level 50 on PS4 before moving on to the inferior Pre-Sequel. I loved BL2 so much that I decided to play through again solo on PS3. I already had the game and the season pass was on sale for $5 so I decided that was worth it. Probably 100 hours total in this game and I guess I am finally getting tired of it.

Platinum itself is not that hard. Only a couple tough collectables (fuck you JIMMY J3NKINS) and if you go past level 50 then Terramorphous is stupid easy. Almost every other trophy you get just for playing the game. There is one trophy that requires you to get to level 35 with Zer0 but I had used him for my PS4 playthrough so I didn't have to grind that one.

I just need to get a couple character-related trophies on the PS4 version and then I can cross off that platinum too!

I probably will not be getting the platinum for The Pre-Sequel. Fuck that game.

not necessarily true. Lots of foods can fill you up without having excess calories. Leafy vegetables are great for this. These foods have lots of water and fiber in them that help you feel full without overloading you.
