Your dog seems like a high energy breed and is getting bored out of his mind being alone in the house. When this happens, they usually tend to start destroying furniture to relieve boredom.

You can train them to enjoy being inside a crate, but 7 to 8 hours might be a bit too excessive for your dog.

Try getting them a kong toy and fill it with peanut butter and food so they have something to do inside the crate. Eventually, they'll hopefully learn to enjoy being inside the crate if they are rewarded.

If that doesn't work, you're probably screwed.

They like the Kong toys, but will end up chewing/eating them after they finish the PB.

Should probably consider getting a dog-sitter or daycare then. You'll spend money either way having to deal with destroyed furniture.
