I always loved the expanding universe aspect of having both Kanto and Johto... so when we got a third region and the previous two were scrapped in R/S... that was pretty much the end of me and Pokmon... until HG came through and took me back to the last one I really enjoyed.

I like the way it feels in my hands, but there's actually a lot I really dislike about using it.

The dpad has been a pretty constant problem for me, and after researching it it wasn't hard to find that there's people all over the place having diagonal misreads... even on the *revised* Splatoon 2 and XC 2 editions. That aside it lacks the reassuring tactile clickiness that anyone who has a Xbox One S/X controller (or even a 3DS) knows well. The dpad's very mushy and kinda cheap feeling... which sucks because I actually play a lot of fighters and 2D games. Of course the person who's just playing the big four (BoTW, Splatoon 2, MK8D and SMO) won't notice because there's minimal dpad usage, but there's a fair amount of outrage over this dpad... and I don't blame 'em.

Also not a fan of how the secondary face buttons are laid out. Pretty much everything on the market (including the Wii U Pro Controller) has the home button dead center with +/- flanking it on the sides. I feel like that's how the ProCon should've been - of course with the capture button right below it. We can't even say it's made that way to feel more comfy to those using JoyCons because it's oriented differently than those too... I bought four of these Pro Cons at $70 a pop and honestly I'm not too thrilled with them.

With a 560, you might be disappointed... I have a 580, and it can barely run modern games on high with a three monitor setup.

Hopefully just having one 21:9 monitor works to my benefit... everything from my (admittedly weak) steam library runs at max no problem.

Long story short, an opportunity arose for me to get a shitload of parts from a pawn shop that had no clue what they were sitting on... for about $360... which took me from my 120GB Sandisk SSD, 2GB GTX 750ti, 6700HQ, 16GB DDR3 build to a Ryzen 7 with 4GB RX560, 24GB of DDR4 and an 860 EVO.

I'd been skating by on my previous build because... I don't really do shit. I play L4D2, Burnout Paradise and PSO:BB Ultima... and that's about it. But that offer was too good to pass up.

So I'm looking for recommendations on games to put this thing to use. 21:9 support is a must. If you ever played a really old MMO called Continent of the Ninth Seal, I'd like to find an MMO that closely resembles that (think Diablo 2/3 with a third person, behind-the-character camera). Really though, as long as it's not sports, Minecraft, Roblox, Rocket League, WoT, any of those battle royale games, or anything like that, I'm open to trying something out.

EDIT: Here's my current library if you wanna get a feel of what I'm into:

Microsoft's gone do what Microsoft does best.

MS is gonna come at us with stronger hardware than both Sony and Nintendo, a controller that both feels better and has a better layout than what's offered by Sony/Nintendo, a better online infrastructure that's more advanced and versatile in every single goddamned way, a backwards compatibility system that would make Sony bow their heads in shame, the potential to put everyone's high end 4KTVs to work in a manner PS4 Pro could only dream of... but still fuck it all up in a legendary, iconic, meme-worthy fashion that leaves us laughing at their expense for years to come.

In a perfect world, xbox would get all the great exclusives that Sony gets because Microsoft does in fact consistently put out the better console

Absolutely true... but if there's anything that I (as a Windows 10 lover, Surface fanboy, user of a Zune in 2018, long time Windows Phone fanatic who not only has a X1X plugged up, but also an Xbox 360 and OG Xbox in my main entertainment center) know... it's that Microsoft does not know jack shit about PR... or even why their lack of caring is destroying them.

So I, (30yo male) the only income earner here, which I'm absolutely fine with.

My wife(28) loves that she can just focus on making sure our kids (8yo girl and 2yo boy) are well adjusted because when she did have to work, she had to lose out on sleep and do a lot of additional driving to get her kid to her mother/grandmother's place while also missing her daughter. If she ever wants to work again that's fine, but I never want her to feel like she has to work.

Of course, that means I have to aggressively manage our budget. And figure out when and where our spending is inefficient.

Our non-modifiable expenses are about $1300/mo, which I think is pretty modest considering about $120 of that is pure investments with the rest being mortgage/cell/utils/etc... but we always end up going way over in the gas+food dept... which alone ran us $1,150 last month and $1,023 this month... $860 of which was just food.

Now that I'm analyzing this, that seems high... outrageously high that a house of four goes through $860 on just food.

Other families of CE that have four-person houses in the US, what do you spend on food+gas a month?

I think there are many valid complaints as to why modern games are easier, but some of it is just a matter of the size and scope. It's a necessity to have saving, and by the same logic, permanent game overs would be awful. Old games could get away with that stuff when they were shorter. If those old games had saving and more generous checkpoints/continues, I'm sure we'd find them a lot easier too.

I'd actually bundle that in with game design.

I know there's exceptions like modern roguelikes where they maintain faithfulness to the genre by having perma-deaths - and give leeway to those; but most of the time that and/or long sprints of being able to save go with deprecated/poor game design. Phantasy Star II on Sega Genesis for example, feels like an incredibly difficult game just because of it's slow pacing, convoluted menu navigation/inventory management and balance issues... those still exist in the PSP/PS3/X360 Emulations in it's collections, but they're said to feel significantly easier just because we're allowed to save anywhere instead of having to play through a huge chunk to get the Visiphone.

Or we can look at the difference between Final Fantasy I on NES and the 'refreshed' version we see at the core of the GBA/PSP/Mobile versions of FF1. The older version feels harder because of a horrible design choice where attacking picked a slot (so that turns would be wasted), and a rather senseless magic system would allow someone who wasn't able to cast a low-level fire spell to somehow have enough energy to cast a high-level fire spell (amongst many other things... that doesn't even touch all the problems the original FF on NES had). Simply balancing that out and systematically improving the game with faster-paced battles, faster movement options and a more sensible magic system made many think it was easier when really... it just works better.

So I'll confess that I used to be that guy... ranting and raving about how spoiled these kids are... and that they didn't know challenge until they knew the name Jacquio... that these chump kids would get devoured by any edition of Immortal... and that even the small lot of hipsters that thought they were tough shit for making progress in Contra III would get bodied by Contra Hardcorps (the NA version where you die in one hit, not the wussified JP version)... 'til I went back and replayed Immortal and discovered... hey, this is a broken mess... and revisited many older games after. It's easy to lose track of just how much of a mess most fighting games were before Street Fighter 3 taught them how to do it right.

Devs have a better grasp on how a controller should work, balance is better established as a concept, response is finer-tuned, physics are better understood, level design and game design aren't as experimental... might 'feel' easier as a result, but the games just actually work now.
