Because hulk is for all intents and purposes, an immature child. So it was throwing a tantrum. But the part that doesn't make sense is, Banner knows how to activate the Hulk without the Hulk wanting it, enter a near death situation. But he doesn't do so, even with half the universe hanging in the balance.
