2/3
Silver ball box doesn't factor in.
So it's just a box with 2 gold, and one with a gold and silver, so 4 balls remain with one being silver. You removed one gold ball, leaving 2 gold and a silver left in the boxes. With no other info, the chances of getting another gold ball are 2/3.

Right answer, wrong reason. Youre pulling from the same box the second time

tag for solution

voted for 2/3 because thats how likely it was that the first ball came from the double gold box

Apparently most people think 1/2 half tho so idk

why do you think selling your house changes whether you should pre pay? Youve got to pay off the mortgage no matter what...

Because who cares if I pay into it? I'll get paid back the amount I paid into it since I'll be selling it.

So? You still avoid paying interest on what you pay down early. Then you can reinvest when you sell, or put it towards your next mortgage

And you dont need to max out tax advantages accounts before putting money elsewhere. If you can, great, but consider other big future pre retirement expenses too (house upgrades, kids, kids tuition, etc)

anything you put in bonds are going to do worse than 5% and with more risk

If you arent willing to bear the risk of going heavier in stocks, pay off the mortgage even faster instead

Take out a home equity line of credit when you can to get back the liquidity you would have had by putting the money in bonds (leave it at 0 balance, therell be a nominal annual fee but worth it)

Constitutional right seems like a very specific designation

Is there maybe more nuance to this than the courts are racist ?

It sounds like theyve acknowledged there was a huge problem, but this wasnt the avenue where it was going to be resolved

I hope they figure this out. Shitty schools has got to be one of the most obvious contributors to inequality, particularly inequality of opportunity which I think is an easier thing for everyone to agree is super important to address asap

My response to the common complaint in the topic title is that you have to look at it from a macro scale, not a small individual scale. Every developed nation in the world teaches math to high school kids. Imagine if America suddenly made it optional. In the long run, we would fall behind in the sciences, guarantee it.

The enforcement of math is about huge trends and sweeping populations, not whether you personally will use it in your life or not.

wtf

we need math so people can think logically

that said its dumb that we spend so much time on calc
Get to algebra because its practical
Then switch to proofs only or philosophy

Calc in high school is an exercise in formula memorization

Math doesnt help with logic

Most people only do minimum Hs math.

We did algebra for 3 years and gemotrey for 1. Didnt learn anything. Didnt do hw lol

Real math is pure logic
My point is that the hs math continues with the rote application of whatever theorems/identities which is way less important than going through proofs

This topic has been hard to read. I never considered myself an alcoholic because I limited myself to weekends and never let it affect my professional life. It does run pretty heavy in the family, though.

I think my best option in the immediate future is to give up getting drunk. I can utilize the cash method mentioned above to limit myself to one of two beers max for a nice buzz.

Sobriety will definitely be kept in my back pocket, though.

Thank you all for the advice. This topic has helped me realize that I'm in worse shape than I was willing to admit.

stop drinking entirely for a month at least

Then try to drink as little as possible as slow as possible

The thing is youre going to always have the same problem while youre drunk
So what it boils down to is dont let yourself get drunk/tipsy

You guys living together yet?

That's the real test, when your personal space/downtime disappears.

Nah but we actually talked about it this morning. She mentioned how amazing itd be to get to see each other every day and wake up next to me every morning :3

I could see us moving in not this summer, but next?

That will not last long. Like a few months at most before you start annoying each other. The real test is to see if the two of you can handle it when that eventually happens. If the two of you can deal with that effectively and are capable of fighting about things without saying things you regret to each other all the time then it's real. Otherwise it's just the magic of being in a new relationship that never lasts.

I hate hearing/seeing people generalize all relationships like that. Not every relationship loses its Magic after a few months. I think thats an ignorant thing to think, honestly.

Being a pessimist gets you nowhere :)

Everything loses its magic after a few months. The novel parts get normalized and sappy shit like its magic waking up with you or whatever stops

Thats not a bad thing, it just means youre starting to get a sense of what spending your life together would actually be like

But no Im sure your relationship is super special and different from everyone elses

Mostly things in the public sector

Any pay check in the private sector - bankers, athletes, etc - inherently means someone else thought they were worth that much $$$ and consented to pay it

Govt employees are paid by taxes and as such their salaries are not implicitly consented to by their consumers
