That's not how it is in Doom 2016. Most secrets have to do with finding areas the player wouldn't go to as they're not part of the main pathway from start to finish. I remember one where you're supposed to jump onto some crates to reach a Doomguy figure on top of a wall between two corridors.

You diagnose it. If it doesnt turn on at all, its either the motherboard or the power source. If everything looks shitty and small, its the video card. If it turns on and beeps at startup, you look up what the beeps (amount and duration) mean. Its not rocket science.
