There's a real condition that makes people orgasm uncontrollably/spontaneously. I forget what it's called. Makes your life a living hell. I remember seeing some documentary with a person talking about how it happened to them like five times during one of their parent's funerals. It was depressing. Like you can't even grieve, your body just constantly sabotages you at the worst moments in your life.

Hence the reason to legalize it, because it's a bullshit crime that shouldn't be a crime.

Awesome, except for the "I've never really thought deeply on why" line. That's the writers being meta about how she has a sexy outfit because it's sexy, and they didn't think much about it. Give the character herself more credit if you're making her clothes into magical weapon-enhancement technology in the lore!

I think Cinderella gets a bad rap because she marries her way out of what was essentially slavery. She still showed strong character by not enduring what I assume were years of psychological and possibly physical abuse from her stepmother and stepsisters.

Yeah, she got help from her Fairy Godmother, but she still went to the ball despite being torn down and forbidden. She didn't just go back to the kitchen and accept a life as a slave.

YES! She was a survivor! Years of domestic abuse and her spirit still wasn't crushed. This "she waited around for a man" spin totally flattens the story, and denies her personal accomplishments and bravery.

Also it wasn't a good thing that Ariel gave up her voice (and soul) to a manipulative sea-witch. The Disney movie is what you a cautionary tale. You present bad ideas to illustrate that they are bad ideas. That contract-signing scene was supposed to be evil and frightening, not "hey kids try this at home."

Damn, it's like people these days just want padded cells for kids, with no whisper of anything dangerous about how to cope with the outside world. Kids are not that fragile. They need nuanced stuff to learn how to understand nuance.

I've never seen the '67 Casino Royale, but if I'm reading the Wiki summary correctly...that's not anything like what we're talking about in this topic.

But it is! It's an officially licensed James Bond movie where multiple women play as James Bond. For a long time, it was the only official Casino Royale film. Sure it's a comedy, but it just shows that the female James Bond concept can be done, that it has been done, and that this is at least one way to do it. Also some of the female James Bonds in that movie are pretty awesome, like Mata Hari's daughter. Give her a standalone movie!

I never want James Bond to be a woman.

It already happened! In 1967!

Just goes to show how overblown the whole controversy is. If people don't like a female James Bond, they can just ignore the movie, like most people do for the old Casino Royale anyway. But for people like me who love the old Casino Royale, it exists! It's there! And it's not hurting anybody! Especially not the James Bond franchise, which is chugging along just as healthy as ever.

Mushrooms can absolutely make you see things. Depends on the person, depends on the mushroom, depends on the dose, but they can rip open the world.

Psychedelics are extremely safe, in the sense that they're almost impossible to overdose and they aren't addictive. But the way some people use them as party drugs is super irresponsible. Like it's just asking for a bad trip. You have to approach them with respect. Mentally prepare yourself, be in a safe comfortable environment, have your schedule clear for the next day or two, and it's probably a good idea to have a sitter. But you have to trust the sitter, and the sitter has to know what they're doing. Your smartass friend who thinks it'll be funny to prank you during a trip? Yeah, don't do it with that person. However, some people have better experiences tripping alone. Just have to be extra careful, really know your own mind, and create a secure space for it.

Do your research first. Know what you're getting into. Test your substances.

Sounds like she's just irritated about Sephora sage perfume, since that's the only example she keeps mentioning, and she stretched that complaint to make a giant false blanket statement about magic in general.

The funny thing is, if you really believed in these magical traditions, and weren't just wielding them as superficial cultural markers yourself, then you'd understand they plunge into depths that obliterate barriers between people, that are much weirder and more profound and universal than whatever brand of perfume Sephora happens to stock.

That's a good point. I'm pretty much only looking at stuff this side of the Caucusus mountains. There's a great deal of Eurocentrism in my post.

But it doesn't matter if you're being Eurocentric. It was in medieval Europe that people believed women had to orgasm to get pregnant. There's been lots of screwy stuff about how female sexuality has been perceived throughout history, but it's just not right to say that people didn't think women had orgasms until 100 years ago.
