100% agree and that was why I didnt really like that season. I didnt hate it like carnival or coven though.

My other issue was it felt so disconnected. They needed to focus on like two fewer storylines and flesh out the more interesting plots they had.

Im not sure everyone fully understands how crazy the rape allegations against Trump were that Corrik is referring to so Im going to post this again because it still is crazy to me. Heres some good investigative journalism from Anna Merlan at Jezebel. When she refused to run the story without first taking to the accuser, they refused to produce her and ultimately wound up sending aggressive and threatening text messages to her because she refused to run the story they wanted.

Also worth noting the people pushing this were conservative donors, not liberals, and it first occurred during the republican primaries, not the presidential race.

I'm not saying it is Pence, but whoever did this clearly has some sort of future political ambitions. It makes ZERO sense to go "hey guys I'm working against the president" because saying so makes it known that someone is working against the president and undermines what you were trying to do in the first place. I assume someone like Mattis often works against the president, or at least tries to reign in his wilder ideas, but he also strikes me as someone smart enough to not go and jump up and down and demand attention for doing so.

If this is authentic, which I have no reason to believe it is not, then the person doing this wants to be able to cash in at some point in the future when Trumpism has passed and go "AHA SEE I WAS ONE OF YOU!" more so than they actually want to accomplish anything with their "resistance".

Palin as VP got him Republican support but lost him independents and independently minded Dems.

It probably didn't matter in the slightest though. That was a terrible time for Republicans due to the crashing economy and a huge downturn of support for Bush anything related to him. McCain, for as good a candidate as he was and as positive as he was viewed, did not stand a chance.

Obama was also incredibly popular, an incredible orator, and provided a sharp contrast to the previous 8 years. I honestly don't think any Republican candidate there does that much better than McCain.

My point that you seem to be missing is that like....someone who comes on at Grade 5 cannot reach say grade 10 without switching jobs which may involve education requirements and such that they lack.

That's true, but in many cases they can reach grade 6. There are education requirements for a lot of jobs, but if you are a grade 5 level 10 that means you have been in that position for roughly 15 years and during that time you could've gotten your GED. So you start at a grade 11 with a PhD, a 9 with a masters, a 7 with college and work experience, a 5 with college, and down at a 1 (or at least some level below a 5) without that. Obviously degrees are going to make your more likely to advance in the work force, but for a lot of these positions there are no specific requirements like that to advance ONLY to where you start. My wife started as a 7 even though she had her masters, but now she's a 12 and she doesn't have a PhD. There are multiple people she works with who are 13s and 14s who only have a college degree.

Now are people who don't have a high school education or failed to complete college less likely to advance. Almost certainly so, but I feel like they'd have a hard time getting jobs that have steady advancement or routine pay raises in the private sector too.

I think we're debating two different things. You seem to be arguing that stopping cost of living increases is a bad thing, which I agree with for plenty of reasons (not the least of which is "we can't afford it even though we just gave extremely wealthy individuals a permanent tax cut and that is killing our budget). I also think this is a bad thing that is going to negatively impact government employees for seemingly no reason.

I was specifically pointing out that "this is a pay freeze for all federal employees" isn't entirely true. The majority of employees are likely going to continue to see pay raises in amounts much greater than the cost of living adjustment.

Federal employees still get their "step increase" in pay. So they are on steps anywhere from 1 to 15 or so. There are huge pay increases from level to level and represent actual promotions. However, even if you aren't promoted in a year, you get a step increase. So someone who is an 11 level 1 will become an 11 level 2 assuming satisfactory performance. These are much higher than the cost of living increase. For example 11-1 to 11-2 at base pay (not including locality costs) is a $1800 increase for the year. Normally, you'd get the $500 or so on top of that for cost of living, so it is a definite hit but again it isn't like wages are truly frozen.

Keep in mind that many people have maxed out their steps - career people.

Of course, steps reset upon promotion (although not all the way back to 1 depending on your pay), so people who aren't getting step increases have been at the same spot for fifteen years or so without getting a promotion. These are a small portion of the overall group, and are either in some portion of bureaucracy that doesn't have a lot of upward movement, are a high level position that do not have a lot of openings above them (there are few 13, 14, and 15s for examples) so they're already making a lot of money, or they aren't "great" at their job because no promotion in 15 years is kinda crazy.

It definitely isn't a great thing for people who have been working in governmental agencies their entire lives. But it also isn't a total pay freeze like some people were suggesting, and there are still level and step pay increases that represent a much bigger chunk of cash.
