THIS IS A WHITE NEIGHBORHOOD: Woman greets family by calling their child the n-word, police say

By Lindsey Bever
October 30th at 1:33 PM

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2018/10/30/this-is-white-neighborhood-woman-greets-family-by-calling-their-child-n-word-police-say/

An Indiana woman is accused of writing a racist note targeting a black child who was moving into a new neighborhood with his family, using a racial slur and telling them, THIS IS A WHITE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Authorities said 63-year-old Deborah Cantwell, who is white, penned the letter and placed it on the new neighbors front door this month near Greentown, Ind. It warned the parents that one of their children, who authorities said is black, was not welcome in the community, according to court documents. Its unclear whether his parents are also black; police declined to comment further.

A photo posted on GoFundMe, which appears to show the letter, revealed that a racial slur was used to describe the child.

We moved here to a WHITE TOWN, ALL WHITE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR HEALTH REASONS AMONG OTHER THINGS. THIS IS OUR FOREVER HOME, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO MOVE BESIDES THIS IS MY DREAM HOME AND WE HAVE BEEN HERE FOR A VERY LONG TIME, it read. It added that the family SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED THE NEIGHBORS before bringing the child into the area.

The letter continued, stating that just the sight of the child reminds me of all the things I live in this town to forget.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the photo shows the letter, but the text matches quotes found in the court records.

Cantwell was arrested late last week on charges of intimidation and criminal mischief. She has since been released on bond.

Officials with the Howard County Sheriffs Department said in a statement that deputies responded to the familys new home Oct. 13 about a letter that was found on the front door leading up to their move-in date. The letter contained erroneous information concerning the property and also made derogatory racial comments toward a juvenile family member, according to the statement.

Court records show that a family member told authorities that his family had not yet moved into the house but that he had stopped by the home about midnight and discovered that the trees had been toilet-papered.

The lengthy note was attached to the door.

In her letter, Cantwell said she has had negative experiences with black people and seeing the child would cause stress.

She urged them not to move into the house.

Cantwell wrote in the letter that YOU CAN SELL YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE MONEY ON IT RIGHT NOW, and added, BY THE WAY HOPE YOU HAVE DEEP POCKETS, according to the court records.

Authorities suspected Cantwell after the homes seller said Cantwell did not want the new family to buy the home, the records said.

Investigators said when they questioned Cantwell on Oct. 18, she admitted that she had written the letter because she was angry, suggesting that, throughout the years, black people held her father at gunpoint, stabbed an uncle and beat her sister. Cantwell told police that she delivered the note and toilet-papered the house out of rage and that I was trying to vent, according to court documents.

When asked whether she regretted her actions, Cantwell told police, yes and no.

I am sorry that it caused so much ruckus, but I feel like I released some anger writing that letter, she said, according to the court documents. She added that had she received such a letter, Id want to get out of the neighborhood.

Its unclear whether Cantwell has an attorney. She is due in court Nov. 19.

Lemme copy/paste what I put in the other topic:

That doesn't fucking matter in this situation, not even a little bit. Every single person in the world should be against Trump even thinking he can do this regardless of their opinion on birthright citizenship. The most cross-eyed, slack-jawed, cross-burning racist should be against this. Why? Because it's Trump believing that he can unilaterally bypass the Constitution with no input from the other branches of government.

You should get this information to the courts ASAP.

The courts already realize this, which is why they already ruled on it.

Which is why the Gubernatorial and State House races are more key than they are getting credit for this cycle. If Dem's can win enough back these next two cycles to be the ones in charge of redistricting in a lot of these key states, which they really can't end up in a worse position then they are now, they can redraw the maps and put an end to this nonsense.

It's not a surprise if the Republicans take a +2 majority in the Senate. Hell, it wouldn't even be that surprising if they took +4 with how the map shakes out this cycle. That wouldn't qualify as a loss for Democrats with this map in the slightest, especially as after 2016 all I read about from the right was how they could take a super majority come 2018.

Whats a win for the Dems then iyo?

Winning somewhere around 35 to 40 seats in the House which would give them like a +25 advantage in the House and only losing 2 in a historically bad Senate map. Oh and winning a plethora of Gubernatorial races and State Houses, especially as we get closer and closer to the next census. And

What's a win for the Republicans for you?

The woman told journalists in an email, a copy of which I obtained, that she had worked for Mueller as a paralegal at the Pillsbury, Madison, and Sutro law firm in 1974, but that she didnt see him much. When I did see him, he was always very polite to me, and was never inappropriate, the woman wrote. The firm has not returned a request for comment about whether the woman actually worked there.

And likewise if that's your argument then I hope you're in favor in completely tossing out the Constitution as a whole and rewriting it to adapt to modern times. I hope the first thing that Democrats do when they take control of various state houses and governor houses is open up the ease to vote. Voting should be far easier in this country and our participation rates are laughable compared to other Western nations.

Everyone, regardless of political side, should want more people voting. Republicans in power recognize that this would harm them, however, which is why they have fought tooth and nail to limit the ease to vote. Thankfully the courts have been able to fight back against their attempts as much as possible thus far.

And you can try and fail to paint me as being "overly emotional" because I know Republicans like to think of themselves as "completely logical and fact based rational people", but that doesn't change the reality of you guys being too afraid to tell people who are the children of illegals that you don't believe they belong here or are actual citizens. I know you guys don't like to actually see how your policies impact every day people because then you have to take responsibility for what you support instead of shit posting anonymously, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.

The mods on this site skew very liberal

I got modded for calling blasey Ford a liar when it was proven in court she lied

Well there's your problem. That never happened, so you were lying.

You must be living in the alternate reality where Kavanaugh wasn't found innocent

"Found innocent" lmao

Watch the SC tell Trump to sit down and shut the fuck up

Yeah I'm sure the two goons he put on it will totally vote against him

I mean, it has happened before and likely would happen again, with at least one of them. SCOTUS history is loaded with Justices that are put there by republican presidents who then go against their own party and vote with the other side, especially in cases that involve interpretation of the Constitution and precedence.

I'm curious to see how Gorsuch would rule here, what with him being such a "Constitutionalist" and such.

The /pol/ losers tend to have the over done fashy undercut hair style, usually. That's about the only difference.

Coming from a man that supports a party that threw Dr Ford to the wolves - damn well knowing they never had concrete proof. For the slimmest of slim chances to keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court and to drain the clock for the midterms.

Better than the side that called her a liar and backed by a President who insulted and mocked her. And I don't know how many times I need to tell you I didn't want Kavanaugh on the court because of his views on issues like illegal surveillance and expanding the NSA, but you don't want to hear it.

Caution999 posted...
So dont start preaching to me about how the Republicans are the ones who are doing anything necessary to keep power

How many court cases do you need that show Republicans continuously suppressing votes? Like seriously, what's the number you need? Because I can damn well provide you with whatever the number you want as they continue to do so. But sure, keep purging voter rolls while pretending you give a fuck about people being equal.

Willing to ruin a mans life based off no physical evidence for a 2% chance that some sort of investigation could get you from losing the math battle on the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh's life wasn't ruined at all, so quit with your feigned outrage. No one believes it anymore, especially from you.

Lmao at thinking the Democrats and Obama had complete control of things for 8 years. Let me guess, you're another one who didn't follow politics before Trump?

I dont feel like Im entitled to their votes but ok lol. Thanks for playing.

You absolutely come off as entitled to their votes. "You blacks need to 'Leave the plantation' and stop being so brainwashed and vote with us!" is incredibly insulting to a large number of people. You're making the assumption that these people aren't capable of looking at the issues and sides and making their own decision, and that they haven't done so already. Why do you assume you know better than them?

And regardless of whether birthright citizenship is good or bad, using fucking China as justification for why it's bad is really laughable

I'm using it as an example because I am currently located there. I also stated that the MAJORITY of countries don't offer birth right citizenship. In fact, a quick Google search states that Canada and thee US are the only developed countries in the world to offer birthright citizenship meaning all those ultra progressive European countries don't all it.

Because America is better than those nations and fundamentally different at our core. We're considered "the great experiment" for a damn reason, despite the wishes from people like you wanting to tear away at our core tenets.

Either get citizenship legally or dont come at all.

Being born in this nation legally makes you a citizen. Period.

Translation: Im ok with the blatant loophole because we can tell these children of illegal immigranta that they are victims. Once we have established their victimhood, we can make sure theyre dependant on the government and we will do nothing to ensure these people can take care of themselves. This will ensure they will vote Democrat.

Which is exactly what any of this is about. Its about trying to get more people to vote Democrat. Being a Democrat is honestly, the easiest moral choice you can decide to be. You get to be outraged all the time, pretend to care about people, and do nothing about it and just complain about how others are victims without having to lift a finger to do anything about it.

From my experience, all Ive seen from the other side, is they dont want a huge government. They want normal people to be able to take care of themselves. They want people to flourish on their own without the need to make anyone a victim. This, imo, is the only true path we can take. Its the best path to ensure all people of every race or religion can be equal.

The Democrats are as eager as the credit card companies for you to be reliant on them. The credit card companies LOVE the people that are in debt. This ensures they can get more money out of them with the interest penalties. Its the same concept with the left. They want you to be dependant on them.

Coming from someone who is continuously outraged and constantly crying about how they are treated here, it's real rich that you're calling someone else out for a victim mentality. People born in this country are automatically citizens. That is, quite literally, the law of the land and at one point was considered crucial to the American dream. But considering how Republicans have fully embraced the "Fuck you, I've got mine" attitude in every single aspect of their politics, it isn't surprising that they now want to go directly against the law of the nation and now retroactively limit something that was once considered a bedrock foundation of this nation.

And I don't give a shit about voters. People are free to vote however they want. You don't see me embracing politicians and a party who are all about limiting the access and suppressing the vote, do you? Why exactly do you have such an issue with more of this nation's legal citizens voting anyway?

And spare me "The Republicans only care about equality guys" when the side that YOU empower, Caution, have routinely made life more and more difficult for the average citizen. You don't give a fuck about the every day person advancing their life, all you care about is maintaining power and control by any means necessary while pretending to hold some moral high ground as the "victim" of the big bad MSM and "evil liberals!". Fucking spare me
