They should write treatises critiquing each other and explaining their own superior views In a lot of left organizations you have a form of discussion involving lots of long-form writing: they're not treatises, but it involves groups of people critiquing ideas and strategies. You don't have the spectacle of say, a "public intellectual" challenging others to debate on twitter, but something that's more concentrated on what's actually being discussed. For example, in the Democratic Socialists of America there were ongoing debates within the organization about endorsing Ocasio-Cortez, Cynthia Nixon, Rashida Tlaib. These were done in public forums through open letters and pieces on the website. In the end, the organization voted on whether to endorse those candidates. There was a proposal, there was healthy discussion, and there was a resolution. With "public intellectual" debates it's more about the spectacle and members of the audience seeking to feel secure in their views. --- "God I really want you to keep posting."
