Against. As a high school teacher, teenagers barely understand the politics of their 9wn fuckin school 90 percent of the time, let alone actual national politics. Most of my students would vote for a candidate literally for memes

Not like adults do either as we can see by who almost half the country voted in what is basically a meme candidate

Jesus, was anyone expecting this disaster?

Quite a few people actually.

As others have said for years California has been passing legislation at the behest of crying hippies to "protect the forests" which caused an accumulation of over a 100 million dead trees and tons of underbrush.

This has been going on for years and now we're seeing the end result.

Sounds awful, it's basically California's version of hurricanes. Plus the earthquakes too but you can usually see the earthquakes coming.

TopicEU to try out new AI lie detector at airports
WesternMedia

Passengers at some European airports will soon be questioned by artificial intelligence-powered lie detectors at border checkpoints, as a European Union trial of the technology is set to begin.
Fliers will be asked a series of travel-related questions by a virtual border guard avatar, and artificial intelligence will monitor their faces to assess whether they are lying.
The avatar will become "more skeptical" and change its tone of voice if it believes a person has lied, before referring suspect passengers to a human guard and allowing those believed to be honest to pass through, said Keeley Crockett of Manchester Metropolitan University in England, who was involved in the project. But privacy groups have raised concerns about the trial.
"This is part of a broader trend towards using opaque, and often deficient, automated systems to judge, assess and classify people," said Frederike Kaltheuner, data program lead at Privacy International, who called the test "a terrible idea."

The technology has been tested in its current form on only 32 people, and scientists behind the project are hoping to achieve an 85% success rate.
Previous facial recognition algorithms have been found to have higher error rates when analyzing women and darker-skinned people, with an MIT study earlier this year finding that technology developed by companies including IBM and Microsoft contained biases.
"Traditional lie detectors have a troubling history of incriminating innocent people. There is no evidence that AI is going to fix that -- especially a tool that has been tested in 32 people," Kaltheuner added.
"Even seemingly small error rates mean that thousands of people now have to prove that they are honest people, just because some software said they are liars," he added.
"I don't believe that you can have a 100% accurate system," Crockett said in response to criticism, adding that the technology will become more accurate as it is tested on more passengers.
The system will be overseen by human guards, who can see the results of the AI tests on each passenger.
Only passengers who give their consent will come face-to-face with the technology in its initial trial, with consent forms available at the airports when they arrive.
The system "will collect data that will move beyond biometrics and on to biomarkers of deceit," said project coordinator George Boultadakis, of information technology service company European Dynamics in Luxembourg.

Vinod Kapri directorial Pihu is being called out on Twitter for its promotional gimmick. People have been receiving calls from a number, and upon answering, the receiver hears a wailing sound from a child asking for help and then the call abruptly gets disconnected. However, when people try to call back, they instead get a message in turn with the Pihu trailer link.
People on Twitter have lashed out at the makers for promoting the film in such a manner. One Twitter user, Umesh Chandra, shared on the social media site, Got a call from an anonymous number. A baby wailed about her mother and dad, and hung up. Disturbed, I tried calling back in vain. Got a message with a link. It turns out, of #Pihus trailer. A horrible idea, inhuman and desperate promotion strategy. @vinodkapri.

Another Twitter user, Rashma Shetty, tweeted saying, Im not sure how cool is this promotional gimmick #Pihu.
Did I just get a call from a hysterical child called Pihu asking for help ???? And this is a film promotion? The no is 7024820657 totally disgusting. I am so traumatised, Twitter user Chuman Das shared.
Journalist Karan Bhardwaj called the promotional strategy disgusting in a tweet.
Pihus primary plot revolves around a 2-year-old girl who gets trapped in a house and has no way to escape from the place. The trailer describes the film as every parents worst nightmare.

A zookeeper in Japan has been mauled to death by a rare white tiger but the killer beast wont be put down at the urging of the victims family.

The victim, 40-year-old Akira Furusho, was found mortally wounded and bleeding from the neck from the Monday night attack inside the animals cage at the Hirakawa Zoological Park in the southern city of Kagoshima.

Furusho was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials sedated the male tiger named Riku with tranquilizers before authorities arrived on the scene.

The tiger will be kept alive at the request of the victims family, according to the BBC.

We plan not to kill Riku and continue to keep it because the bereaved family asked us to do so, zoo official Takuro Nagasako told the AFP.

A dog owner was left horrified after coming out of a supermarket to find his pet's ear had been sliced off.

Robin Ballantine had tied his Labrador Cole, five, outside a Tesco store in Bangor, County Down, alongside his two other dogs - another Labrador and a Springer Spaniel.

But when he came back after doing his shopping, he discovered Cole had a large part of one ear missing.

And, after visiting a vet, he is convinced the injury was caused deliberately.

believe how clean the cut was - she thought it might have been a razor or blade.

"She checked it out and we've just got to be careful to keep his ear clean and to look after him."

Robin said that Cole has become more 'withdrawn' from people since the incident.

He added: "He's all right. He's very very withdrawn from people when we're out. He tried to shy away. Sometimes he's not too bad but other times he just doesn't want to know.

"I have to watch that he doesn't go into bushes or anything like that.
